re: Ohio Station discussing top SEC jobs

Are we ranking the job on previous prestige or the ability to suceed? I do not expect teams like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee to be places that are easy to succeed these days by a new coach because they are four universities in such close proximity that compete for the same recruits. If the coach doesn't nationally recruit or develop talent well they will struggle to break away from the pack.
UF, LSU, and Texas A&M should be able to create a solid recruiting base from their natural recruiting advantages in their areas. Then they are just trying to land a few recruits regionally and nationally.

Radically so, honestly. A big hire by UGA that really capitalizes on what they have to offer could really catapult that job up there.
Plus coaches are humans with different priorities.
For example, there are some coach out there that would love to follow Nick Saban at Bama and get that loaded roster. But then some other coach might figure following a legend is a bad move. Texas boosters meddling with the program made Bama a better job than Texas in the eyes of Saban. There are just so many factors.

My bad, autocorrect.
To be fair your last coach was a fatass, I am sure he wandered through plenty of desserts.

Have Bama or UGA EVER struggled to recuit?

Exactly. The Alabama job will be awful once Saban leaves. But there is no mistaking it as a blue blood.

The only thing Alabama is lacking somewhat is a top notch home recruiting base. And even so, Alabama produces solid talent and it's right next door to Georgia. They have elite facilities and a financial commitment to their football program that is probably tops in the country. Calling it awful makes about as much as sense as including Nebraska in a list of tier 1 jobs

I feel some of you don't really remember Bama pre-Saban. Bama wasn't knocking back top 5 classes. Saban will be missed when he leaves. See LSU right now. But of the traditional big 6, it really just depends on who is coaching. Atlanta is so talent rich, it feeds SEC and ACC schools. See Clemson now.

Seems exactly right.
LSU and Georgia are probably interchangeable. Very similar historically. Maybe the edge to LSU right now just for more recent success and no in-state rival.

JMO: Florida is the #1 job
Alabama the most successful historically but doesn't really have innate advantages over UGA and LSU recruiting wise. I do think A&M is still something of a sleeping giant aside from their sometimes weird fanbase. Auburn over Tennessee is probably right although that is also debatable to at least Vol fans.
RE: the bottom comment I that's interesting but wrong for at least some of those. South Carolina and Missouri have the fundamentals for real success with a special coach near his prime. Arkansas is a Wisconsin level program - not elite but good enough to be a pain in the arse or to lose to a shite team. Vandy and Kentucky are reliably bad so the bottom tier can be applied to them pretty fairly.
