More prominent program, much more prominent state, overall $$$.

LSU's biggest advantage is not splitting a state. No offense (I know you won't believe that, but I am not trying to be provocative), but that is the primary factor that keeps it up there with three schools that have much more potential than LSU.

It will be virtually impossible for a coach to stay there long due to expectations.

Not sure that is true, but looking at it with Saban there skews the quality of the gig, for sure.

quote:

LSU, Georgia, Tennessee...all about the same to me.

LSU and UGA are clearly ahead of Tennessee, despite the latter being the better all time program. LSU, UGA and Auburn are akin in most things SEC football, but LSU and UGA are the better jobs because of positioning in their states.

quote:

Auburn and A&M fall for me a bit, simply because they have intense in state competition....and aren't even the biggest/best university in their own state.

Auburn will always have to do a little more with less, but A&M has a lot going for it in that Texas is gigantic and so is A&M. Auburn and Alabama are large fish in a small pond, while UT and A&M are giant fish in an ocean.

which is a HUGE advantage.

anyways, both jobs are probably top 5 in the country, alongside Ohio State, Bama, and Texas

1. More and better recruits in Florida overall (by national titles Florida is the best recruiting state in the modern era).

2. More reasonable fans with more reasonable expectations.

3. A much better AD as your boss, probably best AD in the SEC.

4. Gainesville is a safer place to raise a family than Baton Rouge.

I don't think there's any question those are the top 7. That list is pretty close, as others said you could argue A&M over Auburn or LSU over Florida but in reality all those are destination jobs with great resources

I think USC is better than all 5 and is the best job in college football

Until LA gets a NFL team and then USC goes back to being chopped liver. Search down in your heart, you know those Cali folks don't have enough love for football for it to be spread across two NFL teams and USC.

The best job in college football right now is probably Ohio St. Top tier money, top tier conference, little modern competition for either.

I mean I'm not saying they're not, but
quote:

More prominent program

Both have 3 National titles. LSU has 14 conference titles, UF 8. LSU has the better all-time record. LSU has the larger stadium.
quote:

much more prominent state

Yes the state of Florida has more top recruits due to population, but those recruits have three other big name schools fighting over them while the state of Louisiana has plenty of talent too with only one big time school.

USC and UCLA were supported when LA had an NFL team before. No reason to think that won't continue. I think USC is pretty set as the best job in football

I don't agree, but that is the product of CFB's huge tilt toward the southeast and midwest more so than anything about the job. I feel like when USC is truly on top, the exposure is unmatched. But when USC is merely good, it's a job that gets lost in the shuffle as far as media and public attention go.

But the typical factors, recruiting, quality of life, economic might of the school, put it close to the top.

3) LSU
4) Georgia
5) Auburn
6) Texas A&M

All tied for second.

Their stadium is old, their part of town has gone downhill from what I understand, and they are far behind Big 10 teams, SEC teams or Texas on TV revenue.

It is a top 10 job sure but if it was slam dunk the best Sumlin would be there right now.
