Just now on radio. Seeing what this board thought in comparison

Had it sort of in this order from discussion but no official ranking during the segment:

1) Alabama
2) Florida
3) LSU
4) Georgia
5) Auburn
6) Texas A&M
7) Tennessee

Rest were thought of as bottom.

Thought Tennessee would be higher and maybe Auburn lower.

I'd argue a&m is a better job than auburn at this point in time. Definitely not historically but I'd argue that it is right now

You could make the argument either way there. Same with LSU/Florida.

UGA is not the 4th best job in the conference.

I'd say it is. It's better than any of the schools in the next tier of a&m, auburn, and Tennessee but I wouldn't call it better than the other 3

fair enough. Things change in an instant if Saban goes to the NFL.
Florida moves up.

For me personally I would go

Bama
Florida
LSU
Georgia
A&M
Auburn
Tennessee

Basically that list but switch a&m and auburn. Really doesn't matter because I think there isn't much difference between the top 3 or bottom 3

Meh, only if you consider our recruiting base to be the state of TN. We're close to Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville and a host of other talent rich areas.

Yep, very little to choose between those schools. All are capable of fielding elite football teams.

Common Man and that fat frick TBone are hacks if that's who you're talking about.

Literally one of the worst radio shows I've heard.

All they talk about is random shite unrelated to sports in their small little insignificant lives, wrestling and Cat Fancy.

There is nothing UF or LSU offers that UGA can't as well. I'll concede alabama simply because they're alabama, but even so if you're a potential coach you have to be leery that if you don't win big enough in 5 years you'll be fired.

Keep in mind this is from the standpoint of a hypothetical Coach John Doe who is weighing his options. UGa/UF/LSU are all on teh same tier historically so history and tradition is a wash. FAcilities at all 3 are going to all be good. However, we are the 4th best state in america for HS recruiting (behind ca/tx/fl) so obviously taht's a plus. The right coach could practically build a champsionship team in 3 years by only recruiting within 3 hours of campus. Money isn't a factor, same as the other schools. So with them all 3 being so evenly matched where is the difference?

As stated, our recruiting advantage has to be a plus (although it is for UF as well). We have shown that an above average coach can consistently win 10 games over 15 years. We've shown that our administration has the patience of Job, which I think is big if you're looking at jobs. A coach wouldn't have to worry about the hot seat if he goes 8-4 2 years in a row. You can call that a knock on UGA, but again if you're going ot be the guy leadin gthe program, that's absolutely a plus.

Another huge plus is quality of life. Presumably this coach is going to have a wife and kids. Where would you rather raise your family for the next 10 years; gainesville, baton rouge, tuscaloosa, or Athens? I think that one speaks for itself.

I'm not saying UGA is the best job evvvaaarrrrrr because obviously it's not. But there aint no way it's only the 4th best job just in our own conference.

and being the 4th best job in the SEC isn't the same as having the 4th best job in the ACC or big 12. A&M is probably the 5th best job in the conference and it's a top 10 job in the country

I mean all we are doing is splitting hairs. In practicality, a Georgia coach isnt leaving Georgia for florida or vice versa. An a&m coach isn't leaving a&m for Georgia or flordia or vice versa

I don't know if that is true. UGA seems like an exceptionally cheap program, especially compared to someone like Auburn that would sell you their mother's eternal soul for a chance to win an extra Iron Bowl. It took yall FOREVER just to get an IPF for crying out loud.

What makes the Florida job better than the LSU job?

UGA would be easily higher than LSU if there was a similar commitment to success in football at the top.

Otherwise I think it is pretty fair except that Alabama's quality as a program can be something of a detriment. The expectations are immense, very harsh and nobody knows what it'll be like for the person who follows Saban. With Saban it is easily #1, for the mere mortals that are likely to follow, who knows.

Anyway, point being that programs like UF, which is arguably a better quality of life gig than UA, may ultimately be more attractive to some/a majority of candidates, even if the "prestige" aspect is a little lessened.

I think Alabama has gotten the Saban Curse.

Like UCLA basketball has the Wooden Curse.

It will be virtually impossible for a coach to stay there long due to expectations.

Florida has it a little bit, but not nearly as bad, due to multiple coaches being successful.

LSU, Georgia, Tennessee...all about the same to me.

Auburn and A&M fall for me a bit, simply because they have intense in state competition....and aren't even the biggest/best university in their own state.
