I'm obviously biased because OSU would get in, but this is probably the best evidence of the need for an 8 team playoff.
Conferences have incentive for their team to get in, so refs, with intentional or not, will rule in that favor.

He threw the flag before the ball made it to the Clemson players. How could he know UNC was going to recover? What if instead Clemson would have recovered it cleanly, and on the re-kick UNC recovered it? It was a terrible call, but it's ignorant to say it was to save Clemson.
