Lance Lynn Tommy John surgery, out for 2016. Called that when he had the forearm strain.

Horrible horrible news. The hits just keep on coming. Cardinals don't have a SP on the staff that hasn't had injury issues. Deff have to look into free agency or trades for an arm now. Need to re-sign Lackey.

peter bourjos was claimed off waivers by the phillies

In news many of us are thrilled to hear we have sign a new backup catcher, Brayan Pena and have traded Tony Cruz to the Royals for a minor league infielder named Jose Martinez

Sounds a lot like Mike Leake will be Lynn's replacement.

@drewsilv: Cardinals went all the way to $190M for David Price, per @pgammo. Pretty good indication they're ready to spend big.

Im slowly becoming more optimistic about Heyward, it'll come down to how badly he wants to stay in STL IMO

MLB.com: Cardinals ready to be front and center at Winter Meetings, money to spend
quote:

The Cardinals' pursuit to retain Jason Heyward remains strong. Though he wouldn't go into detail regarding any recent negotiations, Mozeliak acknowledged the two sides are "certainly working" toward a mutually-beneficial conclusion.

Cards trade Jon Jay and cash considerations to SD for middle infielder Jedd Gyorko. Gyorko seems to have some nice pop but has had some abysmal BA's. Supposedly he's been ailed by a wrist injury since Dec. 2014 and will be healthy this year.

Thanks for the Memories Jay Bird!
Also RIP Stinky Pete. Have fun in NY.

Jay was just one of those guys that we hung on to way too long. Big part of the '11 team and he'll be missed. But definitely time to move on.

Outfield is loaded move makes perfect sense. Under contract we got Holliday in LF, Grichuk in CF, Piscotty LF/RF, Pham wherever. Plus possibly re-signing JHEY. Gyorko will back up 2B and SS and play 2B against lefties if Wong is struggling. I still say if the cards sign JHEY we should look at moving Adams at 1B for an arm or SS of the future. Play Piscotty at 1B and have Moss to backup and still have Piscotty be able to play the OF if needed.

They also get 17million from San Diego.

Pop off the bench, and he will be a super sub, playing 4-5 games a week. Plus he kills lefties, so Marp and 2b can get days off.

DBACKS just traded for Shelby Miller. Could open up the door for the Cards signing Leake.

I'm VERY meh about Leake. He is not worth 80 or 90 million. Don't really want him. Sign JHey first then we can gauge SP.

There's talk about the Cards being the surprise team trying to get Jose Fernandez, I wouldn't want us to use piscotty or Grichuk to get him..thoughts?

Why not? Don't get me wrong I love Stephen and Randall, but how easy is it to sign OFers every offseason? How often does a young top of the line starter hit the market? Rarely. Hell, 30+ year old top end pitchers get 200 million plus, and we can get one at 23 years old? I'd give up both for him in an instant.

You can do it, you do it, IMO.

That being said, I don't see much that we are in on him at all. Not happening.
