Woj just said on FS1 that the Russell to LA rumors are a smokescreen to get Philly to trade picks.

Kind of makes sense. Lakers taking Russell would really frick Philly.

- Woj reporting Lakers still leaning Okafor...

-Russell may be a smokescreen in an attempt to pressure Sac to make a deal, if Okafor is their guy.

- Talks last night ended after Sacramento asked for Clarkson, Randle, #2, + more draft assets.

- Have not started back up today, but could at any time.

Whatever Morey does, I hope he keeps Ariza. Dude is loyal, and he was awesome in the playoffs.

I would love to somehow land Aldridge. A big three of Harden/Aldridge/Howard would be absurd. Easily championship favorites.

I'd be pissed if we got rid of Ariza.

Morey already is thought to be pretty terrible when it comes to loyalty. It hasn't bothered me because I think we've had some shite players, and he was making the right business decisions. But Ariza saved our offseason last year. I just can't stomach trading him away, especially after how well he played in the playoffs, how he embraced the city (again), and how he became friends with Harden (they ride together to games).

If Morey trades Ariza, I will be all kinds of upset. This isn't NBA 2K. If we lost Ariza for say Love, I would be fricking pissed. Going to say that right now. I wouldn't mind Love, but if we get him, we are going to need to find defensive toughness somewhere else, and Ariza has got that better than just about anyone.

Well, there is a reason for that. Morey is an excellent GM but he does not give two shits about "loyalty". He's as cold as they come when thinking of players as merely assets. And while that can be a very great thing, its a double edged sword.

I agree. I definitely think it's a double edged sword. Morey doesn't hand out money, and he doesn't keep a player unless he thinks he can be a critical piece. I'm not saying people are wrong for questioning his loyalty. And for the most part, I've considered it a negative that isn't really a negative because it hasn't ever actually hurt us to my knowledge. But trading Ariza, a player who is very respected around the league, could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

As long as he shows loyalty to his star (Harden) and his "star" Howard, he should be ok. But if those guys start to get sick of seeing how anyone at anytime can get moved, it might start to piss them off.

Ranadive's issue is that Karl offered no objection to a long term relationship with DMC when hired. Now, convinced Karl never wanted him.

I don't see any way that Karl isn't fired this week. I think Sacramento is starting to realize how ridiculous it would be to trade Boogie because of the backlash from fans and the public in general.

Lakers unwilling to part with Julius Randle in Cousins trade talks. He's lost 20 pounds and his outside shot has improved. A lot.

It will be interesting what happens next offseason. Depending on how the Rockets do, how Capela plays, and how free agency looks, I could see Howard being pressured to decline his player option. I'm not saying that's likely. But it's definitely possible. Could be a dicey situation. I love Howard, but his huge contract makes Morey's job pretty difficult. If Capela could be 2/3s the player, I would rather him play, considering he costs nothing.

Fire him for what?

I think Karl's allowed to have his opinion. But he can't pull the trigger so if management doesn't sign off it ends there.
