New Zealand in prime position to win this one

If New Zealand loses this, it might be the biggest choke in cricket history. They literally had 1-1000 odds to win the match at one point.

This is the closest sports analogy I can think of:

Tiger and Phil are playing one round of golf in their primes. Tiger plays his round first and shoots an 82. Phil is a huge favorite and plays the front 9 in 33. He then starts playing horribly and needs a par to get 82 on the last hole. He chips in a birdie to win.

Used this analogy and gave you credit in the other thread. Its what I was thinking watching it last night.

Or maybe Schilling and Johnson pitching against you. And you have been lighting up Schilling(Aussies Mitchell Johnson) and then in comes the Big Unit(Starc) and you struggle only to hit a walk off against the next guy in.

Overall though great game, I thought Boult was excellent and those two teams would make great finalists.

England/Sri Lanka in a few hours.

I was about to ask about the
England / Sri Lanka match, the announcers were saying it's 'important'?

Also can't wait for the NZ/AUS highlights to be posted on the torrent site where i get my rugby games from!

Sri Lanka has 4 points and England has 2.

Bangladesh and Australia have 3 points a piece.

Each team has 3 games to go and one of those teams gets left out.

Wow, what a game. Without that ballsy six, NZ would have lost for sure. Pure rivalry game.

121 for Root and 309 posted for England.

106 the last 10 overs.

Butler played well late. Its gonna be tough for Sri Lanka to run down that.

So England went first?
Sri Lanka needs more than 309 to win?
309 is a lot, no?

Is Root a player for England, and did he get a century? (121)

Yes

Yes England batted first and 309 is a good score.

254 is the highest ever chased down at this particular pitch.

But Sri Lanka is off to a pretty good start. 116/1 (22 overs)

Sri Lanka is favored to win at this point. 125/1 through 23.1 overs. The 1 wicket is huge because Sri Lanka has their best batters in play and you can take risks more freely with 9 wickets to mess around with

To clarify, those risks Sri Lanka can take with wickets in hand are going for 4s and 6s if needed or running when it might be close. If you only have a couple of wickets left, you have to play defensively. It's like being up 3-0 in the count rather than down 0-2. I'm trying as many cross sport analogies as possible to give context.

I'm no cricket expert, but I was born in South Africa and my dad spent many hours watching cricket during his 15 years there and explained things according to his perspective over the years.

The lions and specifically Thirimanne are making good contact.

Meanwhile Pakistan looks a bit rusty.

12/2 (8 overs)

Exactly..and only having one wicket this late in the inning means you have a couple of hot hitters or at the very least 2 guys that are warmed up and used to the conditions.

Worst umpire review in the history of the game

In cricket if the ball is heading towards the stumps and it hits any part of the batsman's body (usually the legs) without hitting the bat he is out Leg Before Wicket ( LBW). In this case obviously the ball was sliding down the leg side. What a wasted appeal by the Sri Lankans. Not sure what they were thinking. Lol...

Yeah I cant imagine ever seeing a worse review.

It seemed like England kind of laid down this game..bad body language and not much fight.

Sri Lanka were dominant today. To lose just 1 wicket in a 300 plus chase is pretty remarkable no matter who and where you're playing.

Pakistan batting collapsed again but the tail recovered. 235 is defendible but then Zimbabwe have not been pushovers this WC. If Pak lose, their coach should get a body guard to escort him to the airport for the first flight out. Back in 2007, the then Pakistani coach Bob Woolmer was killed a day after they lost to Ireland which may yet go down as the biggest upset in World Cup cricket. They still havent solved the case in the West Indies where the game was played.
