Last year they had same number of NFL players (3)as did Newman High School and the Matthew's family.

it sounds like you are using the NYC population numbers yet are just listing the guys that claim New York, New York.

basketball numbers are fairly large. Prob the basketball hub of the US and it isnt cause of whites and hispanics

Why don't Tennessee and Missouri (the states themselves) produce more elite athletes? They have large black populations as well as having major metropolitan areas.

LINK

I'm honestly asking.

Not so sure about Missouri, but Tennessee is very non-black in middle and eastern Tennessee.

Memphis has produced star players for years... and Nashville is beginning to do the same now, after its population has exploded.

The only sport that most NYCers have access to that matches the rest of the country is probably basketball. Baseball, football simply don't have the same opportunities in NYC as you do down south.

Part of it is the weather. We can practice pretty much year round in most areas of the deep south. Baseball in particular is affected by this.

Before you tell me it's because that's where black people are from, let me say that not all high density black population centers are known for finding players.

It's really not complicated or hard to figure out. A area with a high density of black people combined with a warm weather environment are going to be football recruiting hotspots. Cold weather areas with a high density of black people are going to be basketball recruiting hotspots.

plays a lot...and size.

Like California has the most NFL Hall of Famers...which makes sense, size, warm weather, tons of schools, tons.

But Pennsylvania is #2.

Ohio is #3

(two cold smaller states)

Texas is #4

Illinois #5.

Florida #6 Tied with Wisconsin and New York.

Virginia then Mississippi.

With New Jersey rounding out the top 10.

It's a complicated mix of athletes, weather, culture.

And things will be different 20 years from now...you will easily see more Southern schools as things have shifted in demographics the last 30 years.

the states you named have large populations. The 5 states with the most NFL players per capita in order are Louisiana, South Carolina, Washington DC, Mississippi, and Alabama all of which are in the top 6 states with the highest percentage of blacks per capita.
