What did they gain? One of those entities having a fixed contract and the other not even broadcasting the game.
Nothing

Well, last year, AdAge cited data from ispot.tv indicating that ABC pulled in $223.9 million in advertising revenues over the course of last year’s NBA Finals matchup, which again featured the Cavaliers versus the Warriors. That series only lasted six games, however. A Game 7 is typically a ratings and money-making bonanza. AdAge estimated that had there been a Game 7 last year, it would have likely drawn an audience of 32 million viewers and a 21.2 household rating, up from an average of 20 million viewers and an 11.6 rating for the previous games in the 2015 NBA Finals.
As for the advertising revenues, “A seventh game likely would have tossed another $45 million on the pile,” AdAge reported.
So, if the 2016 NBA Finals had ended with a Game 5 victory by the Warriors, ABC would have missed out on the ad revenues of Game 6 and Game 7—which will probably total in excess of $80 million, based on estimates from last year.

So ABC has an interest in the game going to 7. What interest does the NBA have?
The intentional avoidance of that question is telling.

And what motivation does the NBA have to go along with this little scheme? They gots there money.

Not much understanding of advertising money it appears. There are breakdowns available if you care to educate yourself.

You people are so clueless. The NBA has already received it money from ABC. They don't get paid on a per game basis.
What incentive does the NBA have to comply with rigging the games? Not ABC, not NBC, not BET... the NBA.

Future contract negotiations?

You think they are willing to compromise the integrity of their product for contract negotiations in 2024.
Good lord.

If ABC/ESPN isn't paying up because the NBA didn't rig games, I'm sure NBC, CBS, Fox, etc. will gladly step up to the plate.

So you don't have any understanding of any type of investing? Do you live paycheck to paycheck and have no plan for retirement? Because you apparently believe all decisions today are only done for today haha

I'm not saying they rigged this finals. I'm saying there is an incentive for them to do it though.

You think they are rigging games in anticipation of the next round of contract negotiations in 2024?

Donaghy never said series were rigged, he said he could tell who was more likely to win bc the officials had very human biases. For example an official tended to overly favor the home team, or called a certain player very strictly.
Donaghy had no proof of the NBA actively trying to make a series go one way or the other. Stars get star treatment bc they're stars and the refs are human, not bc it's a directive from the league.
Seriously, did the NBA rig Lebron all the sudden finding his jumper in game 6? Or Kyrie making absurd bank shot after bank shot despite being blanketed by Thompson? Or Harrison Barnes being unable to make warm up level open threes? Or bogut getting hurt and forcing Ezeli and Varajaeo to play his 20 minutes? Or Steph Curry throwing behind the back passes into the stands?
I mean Jesus Christ. Why wouldn't they have rigged last years finals? Or the mavs/heat final? Were Jordans finals rigged, some of which were just as storybook or narrative of these?
Of course not. It's so illogical and impractical that only dumbasses on a message board who refuse to believe lebron is an all time great player, but instead would rather believe an insane, impossible theory about the NBA being a huge machievellian WWE illuminati organization. Ockham's Razor people, the simplest explanation. Lebron and Kyrie were really fricking good, Curry choked/was nicked up, and Draymond's committed one borderline dirty play too many.

They must have paid Curry and Thompson a shitload to miss all those shots on purpose.

You asked what motives they would have and i just pointed it out. Im glad they went to game 7
You act like they make nothing more off a game 7

They maybe or maybe not gained leverage in 2024.
Solid argument for rigging games in 2016.

Well they didn't. They got their money from TV. Sweep or 7, NBA makes the same.

Are you serious? 20,000 more tickets were bought. Those people also bought concessions, parking, merchandise.
