I like it. Throwback to the sixties AFL. And the late kickoff gives me something to do on an otherwise boring Sunday night.

Why are all the Bay Area teams moving? They getting out of dodge?

I like it. It reminds me of the games way back when. Most stadiums back then had the infield dirt. just part of the game.

+1. The people bitching about the dirt infield have sandy vagines.

Because O.co is a dump and Oakland won't spend any money to renovate it and because the city has no money to spend to renovate it.

Raiders have asked for a new stadium for years and years, as have the A's, Raiders even agree'd to let the A's get the new stadium and just renovate O.co for themselves. But the city has no money to help out and thus, are losing them.

So San Jose is getting the A's, and the Raiders are moving back to LA.

Oakland's not broke. They just don't want to spend public funds on sports teams.

Oakland is as close to broke as broke can get.

Even Phoenix was able to get a deal for their NHL team, and they had to cut funds from their fire department and police department!

Fact of the matter is the mayor is just a retard and doesn't care.

Refusing to participate in corporate welfare doesn't make one a retard.

Letting your professional sports team leave your city, when they are half your revenue, makes one a retard.

But, in fairness to Oakland, it was the retardedness of their spending in the 90's that has made the city so broke moreso than lately.

Oakland is the new old Compton when the sports teams are gone.

The sports teams are not half the revenue in Oakland. But whatever.

Oh but they really are. You have no idea how many people from the area come to those games, but don't live in Oakland. The majority.

Those fans then stay in a hotel, go out shopping/eating.

In fact, because of the major revenue they provide for the city, the proposal currently on the table and being discussed publicly for the first time on Tuesday, is "Coliseum City" which is an entire downtown area built around the stadium to not only increase revenue with the new stadium, but everything around the stadium.

The plan is to build a stadium right next to each other for all 3 sports teams, Golden State Warriors, Oakland A's, and Oakland Raiders. Likely will just be the Raiders, but that's the proposal for now.

It is very similar to what the STL Cardinals wanted to do around the new Busch Stadium, named Ballpark Village, 6-8 blocks of nothing but shops, restaurants, bars, etc built around the stadium to boost the downtown scene and revenue.

This proposal has a VERY good chance of approval because this allows for outside funding for the whole project, in this case, deep pocketed Dubai investors are on board.

quote:

OAKLAND -- A well-connected Dubai financier and the world's third-largest privately held real estate firm are teaming up to invest in Coliseum City, providing a significant shot-in-the-arm to Oakland's effort to redevelop the sprawling Coliseum complex into a sports and entertainment center.
