Could the real story be not enough minority coaches good enough to be head coach of the NFL?

Could be , but unlikely. I understand that a lot of things go into making a decision to hire a modern NFL Head Coach .
Since the League has been stressing diversity in Coaches/Management everyone knows the success of the handful of Coaches, but GM's as well. Ozzie Newsome got a chance & was very instrumental in both Ravens Super Bowls.
Jerry Reese given an opportunity as GM & 2 Super Bowls with the Giants. Neither have hired a Black Coach so far ,but I bet they feel the Rooney Rule(or some version of it) is a good thing.
Black GM's have about 3(?) of the last 6 Lombardi trophies because they were finally given a damn chance.
Again not one NFL team has been 'forced' to hire anyone they don't want to hire. Black coaches & GM's just want a damn chance & getting interviews / your name out there is a very important part of the process.

Minorities get the opportunity to have job interviews but rarely get the job. It's pretty obvious they are not as good as white coaches for many reasons... It's not a coincidence they aren't getting the jobs

No kidding. Am I some kind of racist because I didn't think of dungy and Tomlin and Newsome, etc as great black coaches /gms?
I just saw then as good football guys. I didn't stop to classify them as black guys who have reached the highest levels of success in their field. I'd be willing to bet this is the case with many. It's 2013. If a guy is a smart owner he's going to do his due diligence and hire the BEST guy, regardless of race.

Exactly. If Dungy decided to come back to coaching after this season, he'd had 5 interviews lined up in an hour and not because he's black.
