That job might be completely radio active in the short term

It's a job that with the B1G money will likely be worth at least $40 million guaranteed. Probably more.

Most coaches get fired. A payday like that makes it worthwhile.

They'll get a decent coach.

You quote the word wrong, yet that was never even in my post. I mean, you are wrong, and your records you posted prove you wrong.

Harbaugh: 4 seasons, two winning ones. David Shae: 8 winning seasons.

Let's recap what I said initally

"David Shaw inherited a program Harbaugh built and after five years.."

Walt Harris went 5-6 and 1-11 prior to Harbaugh taking over in 2007. In fact, their last winning season was 1999.

Yes, Harbaugh only had two winning seasons, but he took over a 1-11 team, and managed to improve every year and got them to 12-1.

David Shaw inherited a 12-1 team, had a few years (2011-2016) of big success (NY6 wins, 10+ win seasons) but then finished going 3-9 twice.

We can go around and around but at the end of the day:

Harbaugh took over a program that won ONE game, and won a NY6 four years later going 12-1.

Shaw took over a 12-1 team, and went bowless his last four seasons.

Harbaugh built something. Shaw sustained for a bit, but couldn't keep the train moving.

Sustaining that for 8 years at Stanford is pretty damn impressive. It's very different than having that same 8 year run at somewhere like Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, etc...

Northwestern is going to hire Tommy Rees, unless he shits in the bed this season and Saban kills him.

I agree with you. Stanford is tough. I was simply stating the Harbaugh built them up, and Shaw lost it.

@DeathValley

I don't know how anyone can disagree with your assertion about Harbaugh building that program and Shaw letting it rot away. That program is terrible now and will be forever since they do not allow transfers except in very rare cases and their NIL program is just getting started after two years of essentially nothing. Stanford football has eroded so badly that I confidently speculate that it will be the worst P5 team this season. They will struggle to win 3 games in 2023. Anyhow...

Northwestern has a bad roster in 2023 but they have B1G money and will hire accordingly. I don't see the same success in their future without Fitzgerald but at least there is hope since they have the resources to entice good young coaches. Stanford, not so much.

If Stoops wanted to coach college football, he'd have a much better job than Northwestern.

They should hire Willie Fritz. He would have went to Georgia Tech, which also is a great fit, but they would not offer enough for assistants, recruiting, etc.

He's the type of program builder they need. And money won't be a problem there.

The best young coordinators are looking for the passing lane. That ain't NW. Anyone can sit behind their computers pecking away about the possibilities but nothing will change the fact that NorthWestern football is the black hole of B1G football. Academics, NIL, facilities and competition is always going to make NW a has been.

Smart coaches who want in that passing lane to the next big thing will never find NW fertile ground.

They just dropped around $250 million on facilities and are spending $800m on Dyche Stadium.

Matt House is the one after this season or near the end of the season.

They just had a doner that allows NW to spend 800 mil on a new stadium.

When the project is completed it will go from 47,000 to 35,000.

NW, always thinking big-time football.

Agreed. That's why it has to be an established coach looking for a big pay day. No one is getting promoted from Northwestern. It will likely be the last head coaching job for whoever takes it.
