I'm saying for the rest of my life when I think about the Saints winning the SB, I'll think about the bounty program.
I didn't realize hitting people hard in a football game made the title tainted. If that's the case every title from every hard-hitting NFL team needs to be tainted. I assume you think the Pats titles are tainted?

Saints fans need to stop comparing Bountygate to Spygate. They're completely different.

So if the Saints make it to the NFC championship without Patyon you don't think there is a possibility he doesn't come back?

It's different, but I just don't understand how the Saints title would be considered tainted but not the Pats.

how motivated would you be to stop doing something that everyone else is doing?
I would think, from a football standpoint, that if the idea of a "bounty" is so prevalent, then it must be useful/successful in some way. IF that's the case, I actually don't fault the front office for stopping, just for doing a terrible job at covering it up.
That's a hard sell. And if the NOLA.com tweet is right, it's an extremely big problem that they decided to pin on the Saints for shits and giggles
I think this "everyone" is doing it notion is crap. There is nothing to substantiate ANY of it. You have angry players running their mouths and nothing else. For every tweet saying "everyone" does it I can give you another tweet saying no one does it.
If there was something to it, the Saints would hire lawyers, grab these players, get evidence, and then come back hard at the NFL. Which is not going to happen.
ETA the people saying it tarnishes NOLAs title are dumb, this doesnt begin to do that.

It's a little different since it's 3 SB's vs just one.

Buffalo?? Washington? There were already pretty big claims. Players came out and tweeted, but do you think they are going to scream it from the top of their lungs?

Why would you say this if it's only the Saints?

Jason La Canfora was talking on NFL network earlier, and stressed that people wouldnt believe how many players have told him that this is normal in NFL locker rooms.
Now why wouldnt Goodell investigate that?
dude works for the NFL network and has a blog on NFL.com

Lester if the Texans make it all the way this year, I hope it hurts you to see my team (who you so obviously hate) win a ring in your city. Seriously, you make saints fans look horrible.
btw, OP should rename this thread, "Come in here and voice your opinion so we can jump in and scream at you"

I think its a three year program with intent to injure. They've lied about it and kept it in operation through multiple seasons with lots of people knowing or should have knowing about it. And they get a one year suspension of their coach? I don't know, sounds right to me. I don't think it "taints" their title, as its not about competition, it's about player safety. Which is why its nothing like Spygate, which cuts to competition, not safety.
But I do think its cute how a league which markets violence is coming down on a team for being too violent.
I'm not demanding blood, nor am I outraged by the league ruling. If it gets appealed and then lessened, I'm cool with that, too.

This I can actually agree with.

Whether it's 5 to 1 or 3 to 1, they were still cited for filming practices and all of that. I personally don't think either is tainted, so I'm just confused how one is tainted but not the other. Whatever though, your opinion.

Eh, obviously, this is the part that's really bothering me.
I'm trying to stay level headed with the penalties, I get that they needed to get penalized for the lying, I'll admit that.

they weren't paid to injure players.
So what exactly does a bonus for "Cart offs" and "knock outs" mean then?

I didn't read through the whole thread but:
- I thought Payton would get 4 games or so. Shocked that it's a year.
- If you give Payton a year, Williams should never be allowed to coach again
- If you give Payton a year and other assistants/GMs/players from the Saints some games, what about the guys Williams coached with in Buffalo or Washington who are still active? What about the players who carried out the hits in the other places outside New Orleans as well?

Too severe. This is an embarrassment to the NFL office but is a practice that goes on throughout the league.
