Being told that teams will no longer be allowed to change body panels after the start of a race. Pretty much means if you go to the garage, your weekend is most likely done.

That's not stupid at all.

I think it's practical but we'll see how it affects driving style, re: conservative v. attrition.

Horrible rule changes. No wonder the sport is dying.

It is amazing to see the sport of auto racing in general die off. Dirt tracks all across the country have been closing their doors, and I expect the same to eventually happen in NASCAR.

Interest in the sport is quickly dying off. More and more empty seats each year.

I'm watching this presser, it looks like these guys got their marching orders to praise tf outta this new format. I haven't heard one negative from any driver yet

The France family doesn't put up with any negative comments from drivers. About anything.

Funny that F1 doesn't have to resort to such a convoluted mess as this.

Dale Sr. dying was the beginning of the end for NASCAR's huge popularity I believe.

NASCAR is slowly dying. Michigan and Bristol used to pack them in, but not anymore. Indy car racing suffered greatly during the late 80s and 90s and 00s. Don't know if it has come back yet. Drag Racing is down.

I think F1 is the only motorsport still doing well. NASCAR made a big mistake in adopting the Chase and now this change. Younger people and people of color really don't follow NASCAR.

F1 and Indy car is the future of racing in America since the cars are higher functioning and look like race cars and they are more international. No one outside of the US cares about NASCAR.

The issue with NASCAR is there's no brand identity all the cars look the same. It should be silhouettes. See it on the track buy it at the dealer.

Dale Sr wasn't the death of NASCAR the CoT was the death of NASCAR

Brian France is the killer of NASCAR. Third generation usually fricks things up.

Other than Indy's shitty tv $ deal, Indy has had some of the best racing to watch of any series the last few years. steadily increased tv viewership numbers, and actually turned a majority of their races into pretty good sized 'events' 100k+ and not to mention the Indy500 was a complete sellout for the first time in its history, 300k+.

Texas 're-race' this past year & California race last year were probably the most exciting Oval track races (of any racing series) in the last 10 years.

They have a huge opportunity to capitalize on the continued downfall of NASCAR as they rebuild the brand. NASCAR is grasping @ straws now

I'm not even sure how well F1 is doing.

F1 has lost one-third of its audience since 2008

BTW here's how much the 2016 chase races dropped from 2015

Homestead -25%
Phoenix -23%
Texas was rain delayed
Martinsville -20%
Talladega -15%
Kansas -9%
Charlotte -14%
Dover -21%
New Hampshire -14%
Chicago -15%

Last years chase was a disaster.

do they really think this is helping their cause? hell, long time NASCAR fans can't keep up with all the new rules and formats, and points systems... how in the ever living hell do they think people new to NASCAR will be able to understand and keep up with it all?

I tell you what, once Dale Jr. retires(which is soon given his medical issues and recent marriage), this sport is in SUPER deep trouble. Who else has that drawing power? Jimmy?

C'mon Brad does not have the same likability as Dale. Maybe Kyle is close after the title run

They've killed my interest too and I was a fanatic.

One thing left out is when they went to a harder tire and made passing more difficult. Also making all cars the same. Ford might be better one year. Can't have that. Better bring them down aq little mid season.
