The publics are going to die financially. No one is going to sponsor their championships

For everyone blaming the public schools about the 10 team private/select school divisions, the public schools had nothing to do with how the private/select schools decided to split up. The original plan had for two private school divisions, which would have full 32 team fields with some teams not making the playoffs. The private/select schools threatened law suit and demanded a 5 division split just like the public schools. That is why the large private/select school division only has 10 teams.

Of course, the public schools are to blame for the overall split, I was just discussing the super small divisions.

Edit: The large division would have had Parkview, U High, Evangel, and John Curtis all in the same playoff bracket with Jesuit, Rummel, Catholic (BR), etc.

Byrd is a magnet. Now my question is why is Byrd in the select as a magnet, but Karr is not?

Read the link. It's not 10 team bracket for 17 teams. It's a 16 team bracket.

Karr and OP Walker lobbied to be taken out of the select division. I'm not sure why they were allowed to since they pull kids from all over Orleans parish, but the given a special deal.

I guess they may look at where % of kids reside, but that can get hairy.

Only 10 schools in division 1 private schools.

How can you honestly say you are a state champion with so few of teams in the division?

They should be called district champs not state champs.

Private school state champions will not be legit and are a freaking joke.

Read it again. Ben Franklin decided not to compete during the playoffs so all teams will make it except for them.

those 10 teams are likely to produce a pretty legit champion...

the jokes will be the 2A and 3A public schools...

I knew Byrd was a magnet (class of 2002) but didn't get why other magnet schools were not select, either

The AD told me they were allowed out of select school status because they are a public school, they just have open enrollment.

Once this gets kicked in, the privates won't be the same any more.
Not in this state. This is going to ruin the public schools even more. You honestly think south LA parents are going to start sending their kids to public schools?

No one will be legit anymore. LA has a great mix every year of private/public state champions. But since the pansy public school teachers had the everyone deserves a trophy complex, we get this

This is a joke. If I read the link correctly every private school will make the playoffs minus 1 school.
