No because there's a theory and studies out there that it actually more secure.

If you noticed LSU and all of Boss' guys in mid 90's early 00's there teams always had low hooks on front they believed based on this study reduced helmets coming off.

I was opposite, much like a taped ankle higher the anchor better the support.

It was mandatory for OL and Dl have tops screwed in and we also made it mandatory to turn in hats after every Tuesday px for bladder checks.

the plan is for UW players to use only one helmet all season
Yeah, good luck with that.

My buddy works for Xenith helmets and has been raving about this for a year or so. Awesome that the pros are using it, but most individual consumers will be priced out. I think it will retail for like $800

State of the art equipment will be a recruiting tool just like facilities ect.

Kids who have involved parents are considering that kind of shite now.

Can somebody post a picture of how they look? that has always been the most important thing to me - as long as they don't look retarded like the Peyton Manning helmet I can live with it

look at the models Tom Brady and Drew Brees wear. No different than a decade ago.

Yep because anybody who cares about how they look would rather be concussed than wear that dorky helmet that Peyton Manning sported for the past 10 years

Probably would see an increase in other types of injuries with this. But most likely not life threatening ones.

There would be a lot of details to work out to limit knee/ankle injuries but the overriding point is that the only way to prevent the brain from slamming into the inside of the skull is to lower the force of one player's body on another. And the only way to do that is to look into the bottom of the foot's interaction with the ground.

In high school in Louisiana it is required to have 4 chin straps buckled at all times or it will be a Personal Foul. Wonder if that will ever trickle up the rank to College and NFL

Those some expensive helmets, but glad someone figured out a way to make them safer.

NFL fines you I believe if the chin strap doesn't meet regulation.

Aaron Rodgers pays the fine every game he plays because he wants that old school chin strap with no padding and just one strap on each side.

It is counterintuitive but I'm pretty confident you'd cut down on the regularity of brain trauma if you played barefooted with no pads or helmets.

I'm being somewhat facetious, but people aren't as prone to launch when they're unprotected. To some extent the safety equipment today encourages more violent play than you'd see without it, although I doubt there is a net safety gain without pads and a helmet.

Same deal in ice hockey. Guys started killing each other when they went to big hard fully protective shoulder/elbow pads. You are far less likely to blow someone up if it is going to leave your arm numb.

We all played no pad tackle football growing up. Don't recall one head to head hit ever. Never went that hard at anyone b/c it hurt like a MF.

FWIW, I thought 20 years ago that football helmets should be soft-shelled, if just to eliminate deafening sound like your head just exploded. But these helmets only see like they will really help with crown to crown hits. You will still get KO'd if hit in the ear hole or under the facemask, which seem far more common. Will this just encourage tacklers to lead with their crown?

For sure they would. The money saved from less concussion related CT scans and concussion protocols would be enough to make it a viable alternative to current helmets.

yeah, all LSU has to do is raise the season average ticket prices 1.50 to pay for it.

So that means they will double taf fees just to make sure its all covered.

I wish bama would try these. They only need one helmet anyway.

I was 100% Riddell and they were and are the best.

Maybe in terms of personal preference, look, or comfort, but this is not at all the case in regards to safety. The Riddell Speed Flex, the helmet with the pad in the front, is actually one of the worst of the big 4-5 helmets for safety. If you're gonna go Riddell is actually smarter to go with the Revo Speed. That pad in the front is just a marketing ploy.

That said, helmet technology can only go so far at the college and pro level. Changing the way the game is played through instruction, while maintaining the games integrity is the only way to help reduce concussions long term. The Seahawks have a great video discussing this. Hawk Tackling
