The Celtics-Heat game got beat in the viewership ratings by South Carolina-LSU women's basketball game last night. Both games were on at the same time, more Americans chose to tune into the women's college basketball game than the men's professional basketball game.

What has happened to the NBA?

The celtics were up by like 40 and its a January reg season game vs a top 10 much more meaningful clash

Man i love ratings threads.

*Chiefs/Dolphins ratings on peacock to the moon!*

“Grrrr they’re just making up those numbers!”

*NBA game has shitty ratings*

“Lol league’s dead

Blowouts.

I love the NBA but almost every time I've had the chance to watch a nationally televised game this season the game has been over before the 4th quarter.

The massive increase in offensive output in general and 3 point shooting specifically has led to a shitload of blowouts.

Maybe we need more in season tournaments

The women’s game was perceived as having more meaning than a random mid season NBA game

They need to shorten the season and keep going with palyin playoffs. Maybe expand on that

Why are you acting like SC vs. LSU was just some average women’s game?

Meanwhile, January NBA

Knew ratings would be good for this one.

I have never seen a sport get more discussion and hype, while at the same time getting shite ratings, than the NBA.

It's funny you say that. I have always associated the NBA with big comebacks from those 3rd quarter deficits. Like clockwork.

Top ten contest between the last two champs, featuring the game's biggest star.

Or one of 80+ regular season games.

That’s because it’s a TV soap opera. The podcasts and TV shows are better than the actual product on the floor.

It’s a combination of things for NBA. Their prime viewership days this went up against NFL. Regular season games suck. Load management, lack of intensity, the play-in round etc all have diminished the product.

South Carolina’s 76–70 win over LSU officially averaged 1.56 million viewers, topping the NBA’s matchup between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat on TNT at the same time, which only averaged 1.38 million viewers, according to Sports Media Wat

They both got over 1 million live viewers in real time on a Thursday night in the streaming age.

If I take out the the NFL, isn't that really good?

The games just suck at the moment. Huge wide swinging disparities in games as players rest.. I’ve turned off more games this year than ever.. they just don’t play very hard till march

I think you are on the right track. With half the league making the playoffs and even more if you include the play in, it is truly hard to care about any of these one off regular season games. Add in players resting and it turns off fans even more.

Nothing is more meaningless than regular season NBA basketball. So the ratings don't mean squat right now.

Now if the ratings are in the shitter come playoff time, than we can have a discussion.
