NASCAR is giving out trophies for leading parts of a race?

Did I see that correctly? The driver leading one of the stages gets a trophy?

They get bonus points that go towards the end of the season point total.

I think it may have been a sponsor/track thing, I do not know if we will see it moving forward.

Yesterday the Stage 1 and Stage 2 winners (both Kevin Harvick) were awarded stage trophies during the caution to their pit box. I do not know if it was NASCAR sanctioned or just something the sponsor/track chose to do, but yesterday trophies were awarded for stage wins.

Hate this. Cautions already artificially bunch up fields close together. Nothing worse than an artificial caution.

It really isn't an artificial caution though. I see it as ending of a feature and then having a main.
To me its bringing back the local track events to the big stage.

Went yesterday and it fricking sucked. Most boring race ive ever been to. No wreck. No caution. I left at the end of the second stage it was so bad.
