NASCAR was hit with a $500 million lawsuit accusing the auto racing body of racial discrimination for preventing black-owned teams and drivers from competing, including in the Sprint Cup Series.
Terrance Cox and his company, Diversity Motorsports Racing LLC, filed a lawsuit late on Friday in U.S. district court in Manhattan against NASCAR, its parent company, International Speedway Corp, and 18 teams, according to court records.
The plaintiffs said they sued after NASCAR refused to let them field a team or join its Drive for Diversity program, and last year told them to cease contact.
Citing NASCAR’s website, the plaintiffs said none of the 48 drivers in the Sprint Cup, NASCAR’s top racing series, is black, and only one of the 18 teams has partial African-American ownership. They also said only one driver in NASCAR’s Xfinity Series circuit is black.
“Motorsports remain the most racially segregated sport in the United States,” the complaint said. “NASCAR and ISC have been complicit in, and supportive of, the racially discriminatory environment that virtually excludes African-Americans from meaningful participation.”

The sport is declining precipitously to begin with, and now they have to deal with this. Good luck.

They would never be on time for the start of the race. NASCAR is very smart

I'm not a fan of Nascar, but I would love to see proof of this.
I know Randy Moss partially owns one of the teams at the lower levels, and has said he never felt discriminated against anywhere.

Can you buy car parts with SNAP? I know a bunch of white rednecks that could field a team.

NASCAR probably paid them off under the table to file the suit so their old fans will start watching again out of spite

NASCAR did nothing wrong.

Did they qualify and get excluded anyway, or are they seeking a qualification exception when they failed in the first place? I'd bet the latter.
Eff 'em.
Eff 'em.

I'm sure that there's MUCH more to the story

NASCAR would love to have a black team/driver.

Does this race team even have a race car and driver?

How many black Indy car drivers have you seen? F1? V8 Supercar? DTM? LeMan? MotoGP? Karting? All combined = damned few

Hell the reigning F1 champion is a black guy! Racing of all types has probably the largest natural barriers to entry of any sport. It's extremely expensive to even practice and if you don't get started before the age of 10, your chances of ever comfortably competing are slim to none

Hard to race when you bail out and run when the pace car gets on the track with its lights flashing.

Plus you know how hard it would be to 'gangsta lean' with a Hans Device on! ... I bet dat Church's Chicken sponsored car would still be faster than Danica though
