A brother and I were debating this-
From the summer of '79, there were 14 active pitchers (an unbelievable stat that won't be matched) that have be enshrined in the HOF.

Seaver, Neikro, Jenkins, Palmer, Ryan, Carlton, Blyleven, Perry, Palmer, Fingers, Goose, Sutter, Hunter, Eckersley,

Game 7 of the Series-
Which starter and closer would you want in their prime?

He went with Catfish & Fingers, I went with Carlton & Eckersley.

Palmer and Eckersley

I'm a big WHIP guy and while Palmer doesn't have the power of Carlton, his overall stuff was great during his peak

Ryan and the Eck

Nolan's overall stats might not be THAT good other than K's, but in a one game scenario, give me a guy guaranteed to whiff 8-10 guys.

Seaver was clearly the greatest post-World War II SP until Maddox and Clemens came along so he has to be the starter. And Eckersley was a better reliever than Fingers, Gossage and Sutter so I'll have to go with him as the Game 7 reliever.
