Here are some names for consideration. I don't know exactly where each is rated in popular opinion, but these are guys that I think should get more recognition based upon their level of play.

Parys Haralson (injured this year)

Max Unger
Chris Myers
Henry Hynoski
Erik Lorig

Lorenzo Alexander
Barry Cofield

London Fletcher was probably the best answer for many years but recently he seems to be getting a lot of respect from the media.

This is an underrated thread, not overrated.

A defense ranked 23rd this year (31st in '11, 25th in '10) starts and ends with Vince Worfolk. You people watch too much CBS Pregame shows
