Understood but they won't be able to afford an extension and he becomes less valuable as he has fewer years of control. And regresses to the mean a bit. Loyalty and listening to the fans is how you end up with shitty, long term deals. Something the Reds know something about.

And look at the cardinals. Pujols was one of he best players they've ever had and one of the best players of this era. They low balled him in free agency and their fans were pissed. Now it's obviously a great move. The Reds can actually get value back (and a lot of it) for Frazier. The Reds will be terrible with or without him.

I'm not saying they shouldn't eventually explore moving Frazier. But not after you just sent Cueto packing, and probably Bruce after today.

ETA: At the earliest, evaluate his value at the trade deadline next year.

disagree... Pujols has still been one of the best 1B in baseball with the Angels. Now is he worth what the gave? No but it hasn't been as horrible as many would like us to believe. Outside of 2013 he has been a 4 wins above replacement player.

Cueto, Leake, Chapman, Bruce, and Frazier but they keep Phillips the fans would revolt, they would have issues selling 5k tickets to games the rest of the season.

New York, though, has been said to be unwilling to part with top prospects Luis Severino, Aaron Judge, Greg Bird and Jorge Mateo in talks for Kimbrel, so it would stand to reason that they’re reluctant to do with Chapman as well,

Not to beat a dead horse but given what the Pirates and Nats paid for closers the relief market CLEARLY isn't worth that.

It will very likely be a lot lower. Rockies did the same thing with Tulo. They trade him last year, he would have brought back way more.

disagree, but we will never know, the way teams value prospects now has hurt what is being traded imo. No one is willing to discuss their top guys it seems.

The money they are making off of Frazier merchandise and the guaranteed drop in ticket sales if they move him probably outweighs the value drop over the next year.

Its not just about wins. Money is always the key factor.

Pujs is still a good player but is 35 and owed 6 years and 165 million. That is a bad deal. Hell, I love votto and he is on fire but his contract is ridiculous. Look at his numbers right now. The best the Reds could get for him is nothing with the Reds paying off some of his salary.

First, no one wants Phillips. The Reds would also get nothing and have to throw in cash for his salary. Second, attendance is going to drop already. They are already trading a bunch of guys (and salary). Third, the attendance wi drop further as the Reds suck for the next few years with or without Frazier. They should maximize his value as much as they can since they won't be contending.

I still don't get moving Bruce.

Bruce, Votto, and Frazier are a nice core for next two season. Does trading Bruce mean you are waiving the white flag for next 2 seasons, and you are pissing away

I don't think you can find a bat like that at his price.

Man I hope the Mets go full Met and take on some terrible contract that derails what has been a really good rebuild

teams I am sure want him, several teams are weak at 2B and he would upgrade him. They just don't want his salary unless the Reds each some of it.

it will but not as bad as if they gave up EVERYONE, Frazier has more draw power than Votto because he hits home runs.

Depends on who they get in return, how Homer Bailey returns, etc, etc, etc
I mean after the Braves fire sale this offseason we (on this board) expected them to have the worst record in baseball. Instead they are 10 games out of the second wild card slot, far removed from worst record in baseball.

I would listen to offers for Frazier in the offseason and would want the Reds to ask for a lot. The good thing about having 2 years of control is that they aren't under any deadline. The value coming back will be less as he approaches free agency (and possibly regresses) but they can still get good pieces.

Bruce doesn't really make sense. Granderson will have to play CF and they are already LH heavy

If you're going to take a red I don't see why they don't go after Byrd. Surely cheaper than Bruce and at least brings a RH bat

Yeah, I forgot to even mention that earlier. They've got Duda and Grandy already. Bruce seems like overkill, and it blocks Conforto for even longer.
