The MLB All-Star Game hasn’t been the big mid-summer event that it used to be, but Fox could still depend on it winning the primetime ratings. However, this is a different year and NBC has a Tuesday night summer juggernaut combo with America’s Got Talent and World of Dance. As a result, NBC’s primetime lineup averaged a 6.9 rating as opposed to a 6.5 for the All-Star Game on Fox

Wow, this story really hurts me as a baseball fan. How can I continue to live hearing this news?

Yes, baseball is hurting sooooo much. I expect an NHL type shutdown soon.

If you're watching Americas Got Talent and World of Dance, I doubt you're much of a sports fan anyway.

Baseball's national audience has been a problem for a while.

Ratings are a problem when these TV contracts renew.

Earning record revenues doesn't mean a damn thing when these contracts were locked in the past. The same is true for basketball.

Baseball will still pull in $10 billion plus in revenue and be just fine.

The homerun derby ratings were up big and last year's World Series ratings were huge. Obviously the Cubs played a major role in that, but baseball will be fine regardless of the All-Star game's ratings.

If this game would have still counted, this wouldn't have happened.

Ratings aren't much different than what they were at the end of the 2012 season, when the MLB signed billion dollar TV contracts with ESPN, Fox, etc.

On top of that, every team is signing their own billion dollar TV contract with their regional networks.

I do believe that major sports contracts have nearly tapped out and will begin to decline eventually, but it'll be across the board.

Nothing should be done. People either like baseball or they don't. Find me the change or changes to make that would suddenly bring in more viewers. They don't exist.

You reached the conclusion that they need to "fix baseball" because the all-star game didn't do well in the ratings?

Where do you people come from?

Those ratings are quite a bit higher than the NBA All Star Game and the Pro Bowl FWIW. Ratings for the MLB All Star Game were also up compared to last year

Baseball is doing incredibly well.

1 exhibition game's viewership doesn't change that. Google the increasing value of franchises.

I am a baseball fan and put the game on for a few minutes. They went to a commercial and I checked what else was on. I never flipped back. I actually forgot it was on

So what? It's an all-star game.

If AS activities were Sat-Sun, it would get bigger ratings. But MLB isn't shutting down 15 weekend series in an optimal part of the calendar, so there.
