I do not think Trout is the best player right now playing and by that reason, he will not be considered.
Just curious, who do you think is currently better? I assume Harper or Kershaw.

Mike Trout's best OPS+(measures how good your OPS is compared to your peers)season so far would rank as the 16th best season v. Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth is the GOAT among GOATS.

Baseball became such a different game in the 70 years between Ruth and Bonds, that I think it is nearly impossible to say one was definitively better than the other.

Ted Williams, if not for missing like 5 prime seasons due to WW2, might have passed Babe Ruth in all cumulative categories on offense.

Yea Babe Ruth was dominated baseball with booze and cigars. Bonds did it with steroids and modern training.

Exactly, Mr. Casual baseball fan coming in and declaring bonds the goat is a joke.

I wonder if we could say about Ruth, I mean he gave up 5 and 1/2 years pitching, imagine if he was a full-time hitter then...
However, Williams missed time in his early 20's (24-26 age seasons) and then late in his career (34-35 seasons.) It is a given he hits 600 home runs had he played those seasons and I'm certain he would have finished close to 4k hits.

And you are coming across like Mr. Stat-Nerd who thinks that he knows everything and believes stats and metrics are the end all be all.

Barry Bonds was the most feared hitter in baseball history for a 2-3 year stretch. And even the stats back it up

The MSB has become a house of worship for things like WAR (or PER/VORP in hoops), and everything else is derided as archaic eyeball test. I don't have much problem with that in baseball, but acting like a triple crown MVP is an injustice because it falls outside of some WAR metrics is

The problem with the triple crown is that two of the three stats are pretty much useless. Things like defense/position/OBP are way more important in determining a player’s value than RBIs and AVG.
You have to be a great hitter to win the triple crown, and it is a cool feat for historical purposes, but it shouldn't make someone a stone cold lock to win MVP.
