Louisville's offense was pretty damn impressive all year...then they played LSU.

Bowl that was a glorified exhibition means something!

I will say this about Leach's comments - you have Alabama as the undisputed SEC juggernaut. Why on earth do their rivals insist on trying to beat them at their own game?

LSU only has 2 titles in the past 20 years. That's all I care about. Screw the SEC
But it was the mystique of the SEC that got LSU into the title game in 2007

It doesn't matter what game you play, you'd better have a qb that is elite and/or on fire that day.

That had more to do with the top 3 teams in the BCS being Ohio State, LSU, and Virginia Tech. LSU destroyed Virginia Tech earlier in the season.

The mystique of LSU getting in the title game was due to that game.

Never understood the conservatism on the field. Best athlete play QB, high school offenses philosophy... (actually, that's an insult to high school offenses that are pretty sophisticated now.)

With the right players, the pro style offense is still the best offense around. The balance makes it hard to stop.

You're ignoring major parts of history in saying this if you're saying "the last few decades." (i.e. Spurrier and Meyer in back to back decades succeeding with their offenses, and how people were skeptical with Meyer in particular on how his offense would succeed in the league).

Spurrier ran the ball a whole lot more than people realize, and I don't think anyone realized how awesome of a recruiter Meyer was before he got to Florida.

This is classic mistaking cause and effect. Even the ol' Ball Coach engages in this logical fallacy.

Couldn't even beat a team that wanted to fricking boycott their bowl game.

And their entire secondary was out for running a train on a co-ed. A true freshman from Dutchtown was a starting cornerback for the bowl game, and he was about to be redshirted.

True story.

I think Leach is mainly thinking of Les here, and he is no longer in the SEC

who just run it up the middle, stick all your asses together so one hand grenade can kill everybody, that’s the right way to do it. Since they do it the right way, they’re OK with the fact they lost. “This is a great time to be in the SEC, everybody’s got the same offense: run right, run left, play action. And they tease themselves and say we threw it four more times a game this year than we did last year.”

TAMU, Auburn, Miss St., Ole Miss all run a spread type offense. Bama ran more spread concepts this year than in years past.

QB play in the conference may be shite, but all the offenses are not the same.

This from a HC who is almost as famous for locking a player in an equipment shed & wearing pirate outfits in his office as he is for his offense. Which has never even sniffed a title of any kind at any school.

Not to disparage Aranda's D, but UH also clobbered them.

Howevah, that really has nothing to do with Leach's comment

Yeah Bama throwing it 50 times a game with a freshman qb who can't throw accurately consistently was so conservative!

Outside of Auburn no one is really that conservative. Even Arkansas threw a shite ton.

wut?

Bama avg 27.8 att per game, good for 96th in the country AND there were 3 SEC teams behind them

i think kinda proves Leach's point. Arkansas was 74 nationally at 31.2 att/game.

It's called hyperbole but there were two or three games where Hurts had 50 attempts. Leach is a moron. That's why no school with tradition will ever hire him. People like him because they think he's some outlaw or rebel but he's an average to good but certainly not great head coach.

Throwing 31 times a game at Arkansas under Bert isn't conservative. I don't care about rankings like that.
