Eight NFL executives and coaches anticipate a "significant" draft-day plunge for Missouri OLB Michael Sam after revealing that he is homosexual. The execs and coaches believe NFL locker rooms are "not prepared to deal with an openly gay player," and decision makers fear a "publicity circus" for the team that selects Sam. "At this point in time it's still a man's man game," said one player personnel assistant. "To call somebody a [gay slur] is still so commonplace." Rotoworld draft maven Josh Norris believes Sam has fourth- to seventh-round tape. "I just know with this going on this is going to drop him down," added one veteran scout. "There's no question about it. It's human nature. Do you want to be the team to quote-unquote 'break that barrier?'"

sure, he came out to his team. Did his boyfriend come give him a hug at the team bus after the game? I bet not.

As he starts to try and lead a normal life, there will be minor tensions. Nothing everybody involved can't get over, but this is uncharted territory in some not so huge but interesting ways.

Which is stupid. It'd be a circus in a big market for a while but once the season starts people care about the season. Unless one of his teammates says something his storyline will be played out by October.

He thinks they don't do that at Mizzou?

No doubt. But it seems as if it wasn't a closely kept secret. He was apparently dating another Mizzou athlete.

All it takes is one Chris Culliver in your locker room and they will be an unneeded media circus and distraction.

You'd like to think we live in a world where this stuff doesn't matter, but that's naive.

It will be as big as Sam wants it to be, imo. If he's just content playing and keeping his private life private it will blow over really quickly. There's always another story in sports. The last 24 hrs are example A of that.

If he wants to be an out front advocate, which is fine, there's no getting around that bringing more cameras and attention.

The public will stop caring when something else catches their collective eye, whether it be a natural disaster, a contract holdout for a superstar, or a mass shooting. Eventually, the people will crave a new controversy. It's just time to rip the band-aid off on this whole thing.

Jags

Step 1: Manziel in the first
Step 2: Sam in the second
Step 3: Tebow as backup QB

Ding. Like 20 hours ago when Marcus Smart had bludgeoned an old man or the old man had tried to lynch Marcus Smart.
