According to boxingscene the PPV will only feature three fights instead of four. Top Rank and Mayweather Promotions will each have a fight and then the main event will take place.
That's some major bullshite. If the price tag is the rumored $100 and they only give us three fights then that's a real bitch slap to the fans.
The Pay-Per-View telecast will feature three fights; one each from Top Rank (Pacquiao’s promoter) and Mayweather Promotions, and—of course—the main event itself. According to Los Angeles Times boxing scribe Lance Pugmire—who has been the most informative of all media members every step of the way in tracking the latest round of negotiations—the fight is, from a contractual standpoint, one-and-done, with no specified language for a rematch.
Details of a press tour are forthcoming, though it will be limited to 2-3 cities at the most. The event won’t go the route of multi-city stops, as enough publicity has already been generated to where it’s a matter of just waiting for fight night.
The event will serve as a joint venture between Showtime and HBO, marking just the second time in boxing history the two cable giants have agreed to work together.
The price tag is expected to increase for the event, though a specific dollar amount has yet to be set as this goes to publish. The most expensive Pay-Per-View event to date has been $65 (plus $10 for High Definition viewing), the current price associated with Mayweather events.

quote:Unless he takes major risks, you're right. The tempo (and entertainment value) of this fight is entirely up to Pacquiao. If he tries to outbox Mayweather, he will lose. If he's not aggressive, he will lose. If he decides he's getting a nice payday and doesn't give the fight his best effort, he will lose.
I think this version Pacquiao gets beat by a wide decision.
But if he comes out guns blazing, taking the pressure to Mayweather every minute of every round (like the Pacquiao of '07-'11), I think he has a shot. But that's the only way he has a shot.

Pac was overly aggressive and always left his chin open.

With a fight like this you don't need a big undercard. This will be a fight for casual fans not the purist. They'll only want to watch the main event anyway.

How many people watch this fight? 100 million?

Agreed, but that's the case with every boxing PPV. For $75 or $100 they should put four fights on the PPV telecast. Whether you're watching by yourself or you're having a party, it's good to have 1.5-2 hours of fights before the main event begins.

Rumored purse for Pac & Money is $250 million. To put that in perspective that is what the UFC paid all their fighters from 2005-2011

The fighters who have been able to rough Floyd up are those who were able to get inside: Augustus, Cotto, Maidana. If he stays outside and jumps in like the used to, he's getting hammered with sharp counters all night. Trapping Floyd on the ropes is the key because allowing him to use his legs and circle the ring all night spells disaster for Pacquiao.

Mayweather will lose- and he'll bet his entire fortune on it.

I want to be excited but I won't get my hopes up

quote:True. But none of those fighters were able to win. And Pacquiao's not as big as Cotto or Maidana (I haven't watched the Augustus fight).

quote:The punch that's been the most successful against Mayweather IMO is the jab (particularly Cotto's), and Pacquiao has a good one. A strong one. If he can get it working early and often, he could score some points and maybe make May a little more vulnerable. Also, I don't think Mayweather's ever faced someone with a lead left like Pacquiao's. That punch could be key.

Both of those options - jab and lead left - require Pacquiao to have some space (i.e., middle of the ring, where Mayweather thrives). I think Pac will have to eat the counters in an effort to land his most effective punches. I think most people would agree, it's unlikely that Pac will beat May on the scorecards, so he has to be aggressive and go for the KO (even though he hasn't KO'd anyone in a long while).
Edited spelling.

Funny comment from one of the articles:
quote:
Wherever he is... I'd just like to take this moment and thank Brian Williams for getting these two in a room, playing the role of negotiator, and finally getting this fight to happen. I can't wait until we can hear the stories about it.

8 weeks to train?
Why is this fight happening so fast? Seems like both sides would want at least 3 months to prepare.
