What casino in Vegas has ever been accused of this?

Makes no sense

The first post made a valid point. It's not about the nfl worrying that games will get fixed, it's about perception. Even with no teams in Vegas you have so many people complaining about fixes and conspiracies within sports. With a team in Vegas that problem grows exponentially.

Imagine what will happen when there is a fishy ending to a LV Raiders home game, the conspiracy theorists will be gowing nuts. A few years ago the power went out during the Wisconsin/unlv football game (at unlv) with like 6 minutes to go in the 4th, one minute from the game going official in sports books. The theory was "Vegas" shut down the power so they didn't have to grade tickets and take a bloodbath on wisky covering.

I personally don't believe it's possible to fix pro sports, as the players make way too much money for any entity to be able to pay them enough to risk their careers and fix or throw a game. The issue is that there are enough people that think the opposite of me and that's what has held pro sports out of Vegas.

And that brings into question the sports-gambling issue. The NFL’s hard-line stance against betting seems to have softened somewhat. The league would have a hard time defending against a Las Vegas relocation, with 28 of 32 teams and the NFLPA having relationships with such fantasy sites as DraftKings and FanDuel. The NFL also stages regular-season games in London, where betting is allowed.

Coincidentally Goodell mentions the NFL doesn't view daily fantasy as gambling. LOL no shite cause you're making a frick ton off it.

I'd be more concerned that Vegas has the fan base for the NFL... it's a transient city that has never came out for any team in the past...

It was 14yrs ago. The casinos have no reason to be involved with stuff like this.

People really dont understand how it works. Wiseguy bookies have the risk since they would be more willing to allow million dollar bets and they would want to pull plugs

Like the SB in NO

Major sports books would have lost only between $10,000 and $20,000 on the game, according to a Review-Journal article at the time. Their losses would have been offset largely because Badgers fans also pushed the total from 53 to 58 points.

'It surely wouldn't have gone over the total, and I'm sure there was a lot of parlay action on the total," said Ken White, chief oddsmaker for Las Vegas Sports Consultants.

Local radio co-host and noted sports bettor Dave Cokin said the theories amaze him.

"There's no way to keep a secret anymore," Cokin said. "It's why local politicians go to jail. So if it was some conspiracy with the UNLV-Wisconsin game, I think someone would've blown the whistle and made a lot of money. It's impossible. It's completely illogical and as stupid as someone believing in a curse on the Red Sox.

"There is no grassy knoll involved."

That's a valid argument with any other sport but the nfl is different.

Only 8 home games, visiting team's fans would travel well, football games are treated as more of an all day event (tailgating, etc) as opposed to basketball or baseball.

Also factor in the raiders would pull in a ton of fans from so cal and the Bay Area.

As college football fans we automatically assume that all stadiums hold 100k + people and Vegas would have a hard time selling out. Nfl stadiums usually seat 60-70k with Jerrys world and met life being outliers.

I agree with you 100%. I was just referring to the perception (which has scared pro teams off). If conspiracy theories are nationally known about some random late night obscure college football game at unlv, imagine what would happen if something similar occurred in an nfl or nba game.

I thin attendance gates would skew heavily towards the visiting teams base. Who wouldn't want to visit Vegas and catch your NFL teams game. I think their attendance receipts would be fine with that regard and still possibly pulling their original fans out of the Bay Area. As a big Raiders fan, I think aside from Los Angeles, Las Vegas is really the only option for the Raiders and vice versa as the Raiders are perfect for LV. I think it's a win win.

Agree with this. The perception is an issue.

The concerns are irrational. Vegas casino lines are determined by mathematical models that depend on honest games. They're also set up for the losing bettors to pay the winners, with the house making money from fees. There's no incentive for Vegas to fix a game. If wiseguys try to fix a game the casinos are the ones getting screwed.

Yup.

If any game is ever "fixed", it's going to be an obscure college basketball game. And that has nothing to do with Vegas, it's usually due to some local influence.

Vegas makes too much money on legal gambling to mess with illegal stuff. It would great for raiders but don.t believe an nba or nhl team would make it, too many games

And if the wiseguys are smart, it'll be a relatively small amount. If someone is betting millions on Podunk U vs Directional State, Vegas will smell a rat and cancel the bets. $10k or so won't get noticed.

Plenty of them in SELV, Henderson and Boulder City as well.

The Valley has all kinds of bars that cater to fans of most every NFL team. Lots of places get huge crowds for Steelers, Bears and Packers games. That said, the Raiders are far and away the most popular team here. LINK

That will take some getting used to. I was hoping they would stay in Oakland or go to LA.

But I just don't see how Oakland to find the money to build the Raiders and Athletics new stadiums.
