I didn't realize Chris Jackson aka Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf did the same thing in the NBA back in the day, but faced indefinite suspension by the league for violation of rules for not standing during the anthem. Check it out.

Screw them both.

If I am in damn Russia I'm going to stand for their national anthem just out of respect.

I created a thread about this.

Stern loves America goodell hates America it's as simple as that. The nfl has language to punish him if they want to. They just don't want to risk the fall out

the NBA has language specific to standing for the national anthem. The NFL does not. Whether they should or not is a different conversation.

His conduct is detrimental to the league/49ers that's all they need to levy punishment. The choice is goodells and goodells alone. Does he love America or not

so basically you want to impose a suspension on a rule that could cover any conduct whatsoever. how successful do you think the NFL would be if that were taken to arbitration? would it be worth it financially?

Jackson compromised to stand but pray in his hands during the anthem. NBA blackballed him after that though

I love all the if you love America you shouldn't protest. It's so fricking oxymoronic. Or really just plain moronic.

If Goodell loves America he'd let Kap make his own choice in this regard, as dumb as it may be.

If you love America, shouldnt you support someone's right to voice their opinions. I mean free speech is one of the reasons America is loved so much. Do you really wanna take that away

The consensus is that he is a worthless POS. Not that he shouldn't protest.

So I'd say moronic is you failing to understand that simple idea.

Right or wrong, Jackson's feelings toward the flag were based on his religious beliefs, from which he quoted extensively. No one at the time doubted those beliefs; they...we...were just all caught up in the message he was delivering. And he did compromise without a lot of noise.

I don't think reasonable people would say that. You have every right to protest because you are an American, but protesting the symbol of the country that protects those rights doesn't make much sense.

You should protest the things that you don't like, not the thing that protects your right to protest.

He has every right to do it, it just demonstrates a lack of cohesive thought.
