Are they the same? I would think what I've heard from those around the I-Bowl committee was a perceived arrogance when La Tech asked for two more hours because they were in the running for a couple more prestigious bowls. The I-Bowl decided they already had one local team so they hung up on La Tech and then called Ohio. It would be the equivalent of LSU asking the NIT to wait until after the selection for the NCAA tournament and the NIT just bypassing them and being left out.

LSU because it is a national story is probably worse, whereas La Tech was a regional sports blip that the nation forgot after the 24 hour news cycle. LSU and Ben Simmons not playing post-season basketball will be in the national news longer and won't be forgotten as quickly.

Were you expecting them to make it to the semifinals?

I wonder if Simmons stipulated, or someone who speaks for him demanded, or it became clear that he wasn't interested in participating... that he wouldn't play in the NIT because of the risk of injury.

Players probably would have liked to keep playing basketball and a trip to New York instead of sitting in their dorm room wondering whether to go to class.

More and more is coming out about how this team is more dysfunctional and egocentric than The Eagles. It needed to be over and they didn't give a shite about NYC. They've already been there. They would have phoned it in in round 1. The only people who wanted them to play one more time was the ESPN Ben Simmons Hype Machine.

And once the tournament gets underway, it will be an afterthought.

Probably La Tech because they were leveraging for a bigger bowl. LSU probably turned down whichever tournament because Simmons wouldn't play.

Also the marginal benefit of 15 extra football practices for next year's squad is greater than the effect that the one basketball game would have had.

Tech decision is still worse.
