Trev Faulk is going coach that charter school?

Why is LCA going to stop giving scholarships?

The word I get is that this is correct. Trev is heading to Lafayette Renaissance Academy.

I also hear a lot of the LCA football coaches will be heading there too. A few of the coaches are LCA coaches in other sports and teachers, those will probably not go.

Coach Reggie, one of the coaches on staff and probably my son's favorite back when he was there, and Trev go way back, and I think have worked together everywhere Trev ends up.

I will say that no one on the football side was happy about LCA moving back down to the 2A level. It was done to accommodate most of the other sports which struggled at the 4A level. I am not sure if this was a driver for Trev. Lafayette Renaissance High School is a public charter school with (as I understand it) enrollment not limited to Lafayette Parish.

When word gets out that Trev Faulk is coaching there, expect kids to want to go there. Enrollment policies may be the only hold-up for building a juggernaut of a program, as a Charter School they have very specific admittance guidelines. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of open seats at any grade level they have to have a lottery with a few exceptions detailed by state policies.

orientation, or gender. Pursuant to section RS 17:3991(C)1a, the charter school shall enroll an
eligible student who submits a timely application unless the number of applications exceed the
capacity of a program, class, grade level or building. In such cases, all applicants shall have an
equal chance of being admitted through a random selection process. In accordance with RS
17:3991(B), a charter school may give enrollment preference to the populations denoted in the
Lottery Rules and Procedures.

quote:

Rules: Preferences
1. All preference categories shall be published prior to the lottery being conducted.
2. All applicants entitled to receive a placement preference shall be identified PRIOR to the
lottery.
3. Preference status entitles an applicant to be offered an available seat ahead of applicants
without a preference status.
4. All preferences shall be considered in the following hierarchy:
A. Applicant sibling of a currently attending student.
B. Students of Active-Duty military personnel.
C. Applicant child of: employee of school or other preference established in school
charter application.
D. Applicant sibling of an accepted applicant applying for the same academic year.
5. Siblings who are applying for the first time will receive preference only after one of the
siblings has been accepted.

Right, but there is still a lottery, so they may have a hard time recruiting kids, because they aren't guaranteed admission.

I don’t know how strict the state is with over seeing the lottery prices but I know a school here that gamed the lottery they were supposed to have to make sure certain kids did/didn’t get in. District found out and took over the process.

LCA will keep doing whatever they have been doing. But that is not the reason they have succeeded nor will it be the reason things are likely to fall off.

The reason their football program did what it did is because kids want to play for Trev. I do not know why Trev but I do know the football coaches wanted to stay in 4A, and the other sports all wanted to go back to 2A. That isn't surprising except maybe for Basketball.

Trev was the primary draw for LCA football, before Trev arrived they were decent but not nearly as good as they have been since he arrived. What happens from this point on will be mostly dependent on who they hire as a coach.

My son played for the previous coach at LCA, Derek Landry (he was the OC at Westgate last I checked), and he was a great guy and a good coach (also an exceptional math teacher). My son also played for Trev and I will tell you that Trev Faulk is an exceptional coach and a very good man. He also always brings Reggie Williams with him and Coach Reggie is an exceptional person who does everything in his power to develop these young men into more than football players.

Much of the football staff is tied to Trev and will probably move over. Their run at the level they have maintained is probably over.

But then you have to follow public school laws and deal with the public school stigma… and as a charter you’re still in the select division anyway

Well look on the bright side. At least he can recruit legally there, and he doesn't need Pastor Jay's money to do it.

Edna Karr is a charter school, and pretty sure they will try to follow this model. They can control who they want to admit into the school so that will not be a problem. Edna Karr has 100% graduation rate and between the sports, band, clubs they excel so can basically "recruit" in all areas. Can be a monster if can get right, but I just feel bad for all the local public schools who will lose kids due to this.

And this is exactly what happened to the boys basketball team. Once Byron Starks left, they stopped winning titles every year.
