To my knowledge there has only been one age appeal that was approved and it was indeed a very special case. One which I followed very closely and was on the northshore about 20 years ago.
The kid missed much of a school year and had to repeat a grade in hs which made him too old by a few days. He missed school due to reasons completely beyond his control and beyond his families control.
I think in the end his appeal was not approved except by a court order related to the reasons he actually missed school.
There have been many cases in which when a kid is in the 8th grade they realize he will not be eligible for their senior year due to age and they start playing a year early. One was a very noted LSU signee.

I know of an appeal won from a school on the northshore, but the kid didn't miss a year in high school. As an elementary school kid, he was a victim of being robbed at gunpoint. The kid understandably had a rough school year, and was held back the following year. He is the only kid I've ever known to win eligibility as a 19 yr old.

Henry Mack for West Monroe played the first 5 games and was ruled ineligible. He moved in from Vegas and spent a year in trouble with the law I believe. Appeal was approved and he was allowed to play the last 3 games after sitting out two. Even though he was allowed to play, WM still had to forfeit those games. That was the only time the last 24 years that WM missed the playoffs.

i wonder if the perceptions of their abilities had anything to do with the decisions even though the committee will tell you it doesn't...
when it's 11-8 and you mention "possible scholarship" on a pretty good team, that vote might be swung for an average player at an average school

On top of that, throw in EHS being a private school and the current public-private split being over the perception of LHSAA favortism over private schools and recruiting.
That's probably worth two votes right there.

He was not recruited at all. Just to make that clear

Circumstances suck, but the guy is gonna be 19! If that is the case then, Im sure John Curtis will be offering 20 year olds in Kenya to play football who did not have a chance to go to high school in Kenya. Don't think a 19 year old should be playing with kids who are potentially 14.

Don't go to any sports in Louisiana then. Tons of kids will be 19 their senior year. Their birthdays are just after September 1st.
