How about this. All schools accepting vouchers must conduct state testing. No student may use a voucher to go to a worse school (by over 5%) than the one he or she left without special approval, as determined by school performance scores

Would you care if/when a St Amant kid decides to go to Catholic and he doesn’t play football or any sport? Or is it just limited to sports? I’m genuinely interested in your thoughts here because we’ve had this conversation on here many times.

What does that have to do with schools who have a different way of doing things and can get whoever they want, competing with schools who can only takes kids from a specific zone?

I was referring to your response to this, saying it was hogwash:

LSU316 says he feels it is mostly driven by sports. Meaning, you’re only against giving kids opportunities to go to schools outside of their zone if they play sports.

I was seeing if you had an argument to that, or if it was just hogwash.

I’m past split vs non-split. It is what it is. If your school currently isn’t competing against select schools in playoffs and it’s not going to change, do you still care when catholic pulls a football kid from St Amant?

So there are 35 teams in 5A and 32 make the playoffs.

There are 28 teams in D1 and 16 make the playoffs.

This has gone absolutely absurd.

What's crazy to me is this: Having more charter / magnet / open enrollment schools is a POSITIVE for Louisiana public schools. We need to be given kids and parents more options.

Chalmette and West Monroe have facilities and staffs that rival the best privates in the state, and they stay in 5A, while freaking Bonnabel, Grace King, and East Jeferson - which all have pathetic athletic departments... all get shoved into Division I.

I’ll give it to y’all, yes, me and everyone else in this state cares more about sports, than academics or integrity, and creating productive members of society. It’s well known that football means more than almost anything else down here. We certainly have our priorities wrong down here. But when sports is the one area where people take advantage of being able to recruit for academic purposes, then yes, it should apply only to people who play sports. Or there should be tougher restrictions to being able to go wherever you want. I don’t want to take away vouchers and stuff like that.

The argument is hogwash though because you guys are wanting to say that I don’t care about academics, and that the people pushing for the split are motivated by sports and sports alone. When in reality, it’s the select schools who are motivated by sports, and use academics as an excuse to be able to go outside their communities, parishes, zones, and whatever else just to win some games. And at the same time, cry about how wrong the non selects are, for not wanting to compete for championships against selects. It’s hypocritical and wrong, and until selects admit that to themselves, the split will remain. And btw, I am also against the Dutchtown’s, West Monroe’s, Barbe’s, and Many’s of the state, who do the same thing, or have a history of doing it.

Not as much, because they can’t compete for the same things that we compete for anymore, but it’s still unethical to do the things that Gabe Fertitta was doing under his watch. It challenges the integrity of the schools, state, sport, and the LHSAA. I think there should be tougher rules for being able to go to private schools outside your zone, or especially outside the parish you reside in, especially for sports. It sucks but thanks to the Gabe Fertitta’s of the state, you gotta do what’s gotta be done.

Because we have zones and they have open enrollment

Ok your first two paragraphs…agree to disagree. Onward.

But tell me more about this unethical behavior. You don’t know as much as you think you know. If it was so unethical how Gabe ran his program, how were zero players ruled ineligible and there was no postseason ban or anything like that? As much as you’d like to think “well it’s because it’s catholic high”, I can assure you that’s not how it worked.

The LHSAA had near nothing and It may surprise you but Eddie Bonine hates catholic high. It’s amazing how nothing has come out after the “penalty” was imposed.

There was an article years ago about transfers and WM. That YEAR, not decade just the 1 year, WM had 257 transfers. 3 played sports. 2 girls-1 softball, 1 basketball and 1 boy that played football. No one seemed to care about the other 254 transfers. Weird huh?

I've never been for the split. Play whoever lines up across from you.

The split will never end, until the select side realizes their wrongdoings, and tries to come up with better solutions, than just bashing the non selects.
I remember a certain NON select that has voted lock step for and to maintain the split in a recent trip to the dome.. their best 2 players were from 3 attendance zones over(and in another parish) if you think it's just the selects... you're wrong....

the biggest wrong doings in this is the principals that sold the LHSAA on "play in class" in 2003 which gave us the split.....

So, if the split holds, the new alignment places 52 teams in division II. It says only 16 teams will make the playoffs with exception of div IV..
Think this stays in place too?

For those wondering, Rev Sports will be live streaming home games for AP schools this season. They’ll usually do two games each week, but for Week 1, they’ll just have the Dutchtown Northshore game being live-streamed. This should be a pretty good game to watch too. I think Northshore is supposed to have a solid team this season, and Dutchtown always has the potential to be good.

Here’s a link to their webpage, which has their schedule for this season.
