Congrats to Opelousas ... 1st State Title
They play old school football and run it down your throat. Rushing statistics at half-time was OHS - 175 yds, Cecilia - 17 yds.
This State Championship is similar too and reminds me of what East Jefferson did back in 2013 - a fricken miracle. I've lived in LAF for over 35 yrs and can only remember a few winning seasons. In the early 90's Coach Larry Dauterive had 8-2 and 13-1 back to back teams.
Devery is the school's most heralded professional athlete as they have very few kids sign D1 scholarships, much less get to play on Sundays. Off the top of my head, I can only think of a few kids who played big time CFB. Benny Guilbeaux CB at Notre Dame from 1995-1998, and Michael Hayes who played WR at LSU for 1 year in 1997. Kid was a freak 6'5" 220 as a FR, could jump through the roof, and had NFL talent. Sadly, he had a knee injury during his FR year at LSU and transferred to Southern where he experienced additional knee injuries.

Yeah, it was a not great situation that year... Larry Dauterive's OHS team was beat by Salmen in the playoffs. It was later determined Salmen had ineligible player and forfeited their games.

pretty sure he was born and possibly raised as a young kid in Opelousas, he played HS football in Richmond, TX

pretty sure Mumphord settled down and currently lives in Opelousas. He was born in Los Angelos, raised and went to HS in Tampa, and played college at Texas Southern
