Dwight's defense over his career should not be dismissed. He has been an incredible basketball player.

One of the very few players in the history of the league where just by having him healthy and on the court damn near guarantees a top 5 defense.

And Dwight was only incredible for a year? You make good arguments, but your dislike for Dwight is causing you to make ridiculous statements. Don't let your logic give way to emotion. That's what poets do.

How is Pau not a lock? He's probably one of the top 5 most skilled PFs of all time. There isn't a post move he doesn't have. He's this eras Kevin Mchale.

His Elo rating is right behind dirks. He also just had the best stAtistical career of his career this year. Also one of the best passing bigs the game has ever seen.

And he's also TWICE, almost singlehandedly carried to Spain to Olympic finals upsets. Ask anyone about the 2008 and 2012 game--- pau was the best player on the court. We couldn't guard him.

I think we are vastly underrating pau

Russell
Olajuwon

Howard

So you think Howard was a better defensive center than
Shaq
Wilt
Mikan
Moses
Ewing
Robinson
Duncan (he's a center)
Mourning
Parish
Camby

Bradley and Bol still have a good bit more blocks than Dwight.

lets look at the scrub 2nd teamers
Amare
Yao, not really a scrub
Amare
Amare
Bynum

So Amare was the 2nd best center in the league during that 5 year run. That's some top notch competition.

That's a great feat

I'm not saying Dwight isn't great, but he had hardly any competition at the center position during his big run, and he has zero championships.
I don't have a problem with him making the HOF, but he's not in the conversation with the big dominant centers of all time.

Well when Shaq was dominating with the Lakers Olajuwon, Ewing, Robinson, etc were well past their prime (or out of the league).

Too bad it doesn't guarantee wins..

Of course...because somehow he got lumped-in with other Euros and was undeservedly called "soft" for a significant portion of his career.

Maybe Robinson, maybe Abdul Jabbar, none of the others. No way. You can't go by all time blocks when one guy is still playing and isn't even 30 and the others are retired and play into their late mid 30s.

in 2008, Shaq was with Phoenix, in his 15th year. Not really a feat to beat out a hobbled end of his career Shaq. Shaq was out of the league when Dwight really got going.

Name me the players with 5 consecutive all NBA first teams. I'll wait here. Then tell me that Howard isn't a hall of famer after seeing the company that he's in. And before you try to change the argument and move the goal posts remember that this thread is on potential future HOF members.

I will say his is a HOF but more a product of the time frame in which he played.

I"m not talking about blocks.
Camby was a DPOY
Robinson was too.
Mourning has two DPOY

Wilt and Mikan were like Dwight now. There wasn't that much competition for the size and athleticism they had.

if you think Dwight was a better defender than Shaq and Wilt, then arguing with you is pointless.

Shaq wasn't ever first team all NBA until Robinson, Ewing, Olajuwon were past their prime.
