Sounds like it will be a charter school.
Actually it appear to be a public school, in partnership with Akron Public School system.

Surrounded by nearly 100 of the Foundation’s community partners and proud family members, today LJFF and Akron Public Schools (APS) announced a partnership to design a new Akron public school, called the I PROMISE School (IPS).

Left behind is another word for dumbass or troublemaker. Trust me, as someone who was raised by a public school elementary teacher, this will be the worst school to attend in Akron.

More power to him, but 90 percent of these kids or their families don't give two shits about an education. I pray for the teachers that will be employed there.

On the other hand, if you can take 1000+ kids dragging the rest of the students down and slowing their academic progress, that is not necessarily a bad thing. These words may be harsh, but few people know how fricked up the public school system and many of the children in it really are.

Well I was worried that you had no idea how Akron Public School functioned, how this partnership will work, and how the school will select students.

But since you were raised by an elementary teacher, likely a long time ago, and a thousand miles away, I am now confident that your conclusions are 100% correct since you have such expert qualifications.

Right, Jordan was too much of a piece of shite.

People love to hate Lebron, yet he had more hype than any athlete, ever, and lived up to it. To go with this, he's clean. Maybe he has some skeletons in the closet, but from all I have seen he is a good dude.

Jordan was an amazing player, but was/is a piece of shite. Yet people idolize him and hate on Lebron. I think they do it because deep down they know he's the biggest threat to overtake MJ as GOAT and he is already undoubtedly top 5 ever, likely top 2.

Okay, so let's say 90% of this already destined-to-fail group does fail. If the school is able to give 100 kids a chance at making something of themselves, is that not worth Lebron's foundation opening the school?

It's not even your money, chief. Pretty absurd that you're so against an obvious good deed that's all but guaranteed to be positive for kids there.

If someone needed an example of what "talking out of your arse" looks like, this post nailed it.

worst thing he's done is the decision tv special.

Which was ESPN's idea and LeBron lobbied for the proceeds to go to charity. LINK

"As someone" who went to HS with hundreds of low-income students, all of whom were raised in gang-stricken, drug-induced neighborhoods, I find it appalling that you seem so against this. Plenty of times in my public HS did I see teachers not give two shits about "dumbasses" and "troublemakers." It only led them down a worse path not having much of a support-system in either direction.

Plenty of students that attend this school will flame-out, as should be expected, but many others will be in front of a faculty whose dedication is to move each student forward. They won't be ignored.

Your entire take on this subject is sickening to me.

Why not invest money on gifted kids who can have an impact on society?

Lebron can do whatever he likes with his money but 10 years from now, this project will be viewed as a waste of money and failure. It's a feel good story but we've all seen this movie before.

I would guess that LeBron James is the ultimate hero and role model a huge majority of the kids living in Akron. That's especially true of the presumably troubled kids who this school is designed to help. Merely sending those kids to LeBron's school should impact their behavior and academic commitment relative to a regular public school.

, so to confirm, your take on these kids is that we should, in fact, leave them behind. Nice!

He is treating the symptoms and not the cause. If throwing money at education was a solution, the problems would've been solve a long time ago.

If you want to indulge in this feel good story...fine.
