I know I'm a year late on this, and mainly because I just started following baseball again (Astros finally worth watching).

But isn't Maddux having the Braves logo on his HOF stuff a no brainer?

quote:

On January 8, 2014 Maddux was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. The pitcher later announced that he would not have a team logo on his plaque, citing his history with both the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs: "It’s impossible for me to choose one of those teams ... as the fans of both clubs in each of those cities were so wonderful," Maddux said.[48]

Pretty much EVERYTHING he did of note was in a Braves uniform, and he spent more years with the Braves.

3 Cy-Youngs with the Braves.
World Series Champion with the Braves.
4 x MLB ERA champion with Braves.
6 x All-Star with Braves
2 x NL wins w/ Atlanta

And how many divisional titles w/ Atlanta???? A lot

He had 1 Cy-Young with the Cubs, and 2 All-Star appearances, and 1 NL wins with the Cubs.

Were the Braves fans rubbed the wrong way about his "equal" respect for the Braves and Cubs organizations?

What would Leo Mazzone have to say about this?

Seems a bit contradictory.

I said almost everything, or "pretty much", as in "much of his accomplishments came in a Braves uniform". Not contradictory really.

Looks like about 75%+ of most of his accomplishments were with them

He obviously loved playing for the Cubs more than the Braves.

Probably likes both fanbases and enjoyed both stints and wanted to remain neutral.

Is it that hard to believe?

You put everything in CAPS. That implies more than "much" in my opinion.

Regardless, those accomplishments may not be any more important than other stuff. Maybe he felt as much or more love and respect from Cubs fans. He probably had equally important relationships in Chicago, and all that made him not want to place one location above the other.

he went back to Chi later in his career, then worked in the front office after retirement.

I certainly wasn't. He still comes around a good bit and he earned the right to go in to the Hall without representing a team.

Does the HoF still pick the team your inducted with or is everyones hat blank? I know Boggs "sold his plaque" to the Rays.

When Maddux declared for the draft most teams dismissed him because of his unathletic appearance. The Cubs were the team that gave him a chance and drafted him. I'm sure that holds some sentimental value to Greg. Plus he played in Chicago almost as long as he played in Atlanta

True, but the Braves are a lame organization with TV fans, and it tries to fake tradition, so it's understandable.

Then again, the same applies to the Cubs as well.

I don't know why the Braves never offered Maddux some sort of management or coaching role in their organization. If he had been with the Braves for the last five years in some sort of role, this wouldn't even be a debate. As it is, Maddux was actually with the Cubs longer than the Braves when you add the two years he was with them as a front office assistant. So it's understandable why he was so hesitant to choose the Braves over the Cubs.

Reason I ask if you look on the HoF website it will list the primary team.

The Expos are Dawson's and the Bluejays are for Alomar. I do not consider either of them the "primary" team.

Who would you consider the primary team for Alomar? I don't see how it's not the Jays

The Orioles or the Padres. He never spent more than 5 years with anyone though. He came up with the Padres and was in his prime with the O's, IMO.
