The Center and Power Forward positions are garbage compared to any other period in NBA history
Posted on 12/24/14 at 12:01 am to VerlanderBEAST
Power Forward:
Davis
Bosh
Love
Griffin
Aldridge
Anderson
Monroe
Faried
Thats not even including the older guys.

NBA has plenty of talent right now at the C.
Shooting guard is the weakest position in the NBA right now
This. Plus this upcoming draft has some very good Center prospects.

Which one of those guys is currently as good as Dirk/KG/Duncan were in 2005? Or Malone/Barkley were in 1995?

Center prospects have not been the problem. The problem is injuries and them going to the NBA before they are ready.

There is some truth to that.
Also, earlier I excluded one of the most underrated players of the last 20 years, Chris Bosh.
Today's Centers might not win scoring titles, but offenses are way different now. The elite guys I mentioned all have offenses that flow through them.

Anthony Davis
25 ppg, 10 rpg, 3 bpg, and 2 spg
Shooting 57.3% from the field and 78.5% from the line
Has a PER of 32.7

Anthony Davis is playing as good as those guys. And then there are plenty of other really good PF today, albeit not on the level of the ones you mentioned. But the fact is there are a lot of really, really good PF.
I also don't get how you can say "The PF position is garbage right now" and when someone lists great PF reply with "but they aren't as good as these three players in this era". No one said they were. The thread is about overall talent.

Probably 1989. Every one of these 30 guys was playing in 1989 and was an NBA all-star at least 5 times.
This is what makes it so tough to compare, imo.
You listed an incredible list of players. But 1989 was so long ago. We see those players names, and we think of them in their prime when it's really hard to remember how good they reallllly were in 1989.
If you listed the great NBA players in the NBA in 2014, you wouldn't list Kobe because he's past his prime and not a good player. You wouldn't list Andrew Wiggins (who is young, but could be a superstar someday). But 20 years from now, if you listed 2014 players, you could put in Kobe and Wiggins (assuming he goes on for a great career), and people will likely be in awe.
But I do think the era of late 80's, early 90's would be the last time the league had this many good palyers.

Anthony Davis is not close ot the level of prime Dirk Duncan KG Malone or Barkley yet.
And when I said the C and PF positions are garbage I meant as a whole big men are garbage compared to 10 or 20 years ago.

Big men don't when scoring titles any more because of the change in offense in the NBA, but the elite are just as talented as the previous era.
