So yeah, maybe just once.

Point stands that they could compete, and potentially win once or twice.

here is the thing

I don't think they could "win an NBA game" but the thing is, they have basically NBA players on their roster now. their starting 5 are all gonna play in the league so I mean, if you put them in a regular 82 game season by the end of the year they will have enough experience to win SOME games.

Vegas doesn't really know any better than anyone else since there isn't any kind of precedent or standard to go by.

Plus, you're talking about one game when the topic is about an 82 game season.

Exactly. I mean, the 76ers have won 17 games this year. Think about the players they are playing:

Starters:

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute - 2nd round pick. 7 year pro. Not very good.

Nerlens Noel - 20 years old. 2nd year in the league, but basically a rookie. He was injured all of his true rookie year. 6th pick.

Ish Smith - Undrafted. 5 year pro. Always a 3rd stringer... has been on 8 NBA teams in his 5 years and even played in the D-League.

Jason Richardson - Old, had knee injures and just started playing games after having missed over 2 years with injuries.

JaKarr Sampson - Undrafted rookie from the D-League.

Two best bench players:

Robert Covington - Undrafted. D-Leaguer. 2nd year player.

Isaiah Canaan - 2nd round pick. 2nd year in league. Was a D-Leaguer his first year.

So I mean, the 76ers are playing rookies and second year players... and most of them are undrafted, 2nd rounders, etc. They're not even considered good rookies and 2nd year players except for Noel.

A lot of these Kentucky guys are all going to be 1st round draft picks. Some even high 1st round picks.

They can compete in the NBA over the course of an 82 game season and win some games for sure.

I hope the Warriors get Kentucky in the first round of the playoffs.

They would not lose all 82 games. They get to play the 76ers, Knicks, Lakers, TImberwolves about 10 times.

The Timberwolves dressed 8 dudes the other day, and one of them was a D-league guy they signed just because he was close enough to New York to make it to the arena for their game in time.

Kentucky has like 8 dudes that will never see the D-league.

They'd have 82 games to gain experience. They would absolutely win a game.

Yep. People get too caught up in "college vs. NBA" instead of looking at the individual players without a label.

These Kentucky guys are as good as any rookies in the NBA. Many rookies in the NBA are clearly better than a lot of veterans in the league.

There is no doubt that the Kentucky players are better than a lot of players currently in the NBA.

Rookies don't come in at the bottom of the totem pole as far as their ability as a basketball player. They come into the NBA already better than a lot of NBA players. The Kentucky guys are already better than a lot of NBA players... they just aren't in the league yet.

Yes, this isn't the football argument. A college football team will never be able to beat a pro team even if they played 100 times, at least for the foreseeable future.

This is an entirely different argument.

ETA: And let's be clear. Most years the best college team would have no shot beating the worst NBA team, even if they played 20 or 30 times.

But this year is unique, in that Kentucky is probably one of the top 5 college teams ever, and the NBA is in this lull where tanking has become the norm, resulting in some extremely poor teams.

Given that, 15pt underdogs are 2-72 since 2003. I think that is fair...they might get hot and steal a couple games against some of the poorer competition, that's about it though.

But that is also only taking into account 1 game. If we're talking about an 82 game season, you would have to assume that Kentucky would improve much more over the course of an NBA season than the Knicks.

So what is a 15 point underdog for game 1 will probably not be the case for game 82.

Only Devin Booker is shooting over 40% from three. Add in the extra distance for threes in the NBA, and talented bigs who won't allow Towns and Cauley-Stein to just have their way on the glass and in the paint, and Kentucky would get destroyed. 7 to 10 wins MAX, I think.

Who on Kentucky do you think is going to set the nba on fire next year? They have 2 rotation type guys on their roster right now in towns and WCS. Lyles is a nice talent and will go high in the draft but would get exposed by an nba sf right now, same with booker. The rest of their team are fringe guys, you have actually watched the Harrison's play before right?

Kentucky has 5 players projected to be drafted in the 1st round... 4 of them in the top 12.

Ok. So what? There are like 4 rookies making an actual impact that were drafted last year. Odds are only one of those guys is any good next year, much less right now.

Towns and WCS are lottery locks. Booker and Lyles are first rounders although I'm not sure Lyles goes pro. Who is the fifth? Dakari? Seems like a bad first rounder like Orton.

2012 was a much better team
