If Kobe was white, he would be in the argument as the greatest athlete ever.

Is this like when Floyd Mayweather said he would have made twice the money if he was white?

Even though almost every previous Uber famous top boxer in the world was black or other "minority".

Larry Bird was damn good and white and he isn't even considered top ten by a lot of people.

I stopped liking him after he raped that girl. Then he paid her millions to disappear and shut up.

The love/hate for Kobe is truly fascinating

Some people just hate winners/greatness. He will go down as a consensus Top 10 player of all time. Borderline top 5. Some people just hate that so much..

Me too. I can't stand the Lakers, but I have always enjoyed watching Kobe play and have respected his work ethic and determination.

He's so damn competitive I don't see him coping with retirement very well when he finally does.

Another side note that I liked hearing him say on the Grantland basketball hour he was on. When he was asked about retiring and if he will announce before the season when he does like, Jeter did. His response was a hell no, he doesn't want people in other cities treating him any differently than they have his whole career just because he is retiring. He said I don't want them to stop booing me just because I would be retiring.

Yeah...he really raped the girl...the same girl who showed up at the police station with 7 different semen in her panties

Yeah, I thought that was awesome too. He really embraces the villain role.

I always used to love when he would catch fire on the road in big games. It seems like Kobe would just beg for the crowd to keep booing and it made his game stronger.

Here's a great example LINK

Game 5 of the 2010 Finals in Boston. The Lakers offense goes stagnant coming out of the half so Kobe tries to take over. He just starts hitting some insane shots from all over the place and the crowd becomes more and more hostile. He hits a crazy 3 from way behind the linetowards the end of the video. The crowd's reaction is just great. Dwyane Wade was in the crowd just shaking his head too

That's not why I hate him. I don't hate the other consensus Top 10/5 players of all time. I hate Kobe because he's an a-hole.

This is such a lazy, simple-minded crutch and is so silly when talking about Kobe.
Some people hate assholes. Kobe is a world-class a-hole. There's a reason why none of teammates or his family want anything to do with him. There's a reason why he seemingly has no friends. He met his wife at a video shoot and pretty much alienated his entire family by choosing her over them.

Most people hate rapists. Some people believe Kobe got away with rape. I'm not one of those people but some people believe that.

Some people hate snitches. What Kobe said about Shaq and his side-pieces is a bitch move of the highest order.

Some people hate selfish ballhogs. Nobody has ever accused Kobe of being a team player. That's something we value in American sports.

Do all these things matter to me personally?--No. I find what he did to Shaq to be the most offensive thing on the list but I don't hate the guy. I just recognize that there are a LOT of reasons to dislike a guy who is by all accounts a huge piece of shite. It's lazy and stupid to just say people hate him b/c they "hate winners." On the contrary, people excuse his sociopathic behavior because people love winners.

You're either completely misinformed or don't know the meaning of the word "consensus."

People who aren't "team players" don't win 5 championships.

How did you come to this conclusion? Sure, Kobe doesnt have this super nice guy, I'm BFF's with everyone persona like Lebron or Dwight Howard but your statement is just ridiculous.

Just because no talent, lazy scrubs like Smush Parker hate Kobe doesn't really mean much. Do you think garbage players from the Bulls back in the day loved MJ? Lol no. Kobe and Jordan are nearly identical from a personality/competitiveness standpoint.

There's plenty of players that respect the shite out of Kobe for making them better players and they are IRL friends that would go to bat for him (Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Derek Fisher off the top of my head). Gary Payton still gushes about Kobe and he was there when the rape trial was going on. Phil Jackson thinks of Kobe like a son. He's probably closer to him than he is to Jordan.

Hell, Artest hated the guy but became like a brother to Kobe once he played with him and knew him.

After retirement, Shaq probably became Kobe's biggest fan in the media. He is constantly sticking up for him nowadays. That says a lot to me, considering where their relationship used to be.

Those people definitely aren't biased whatsoever. Anyone that truly believes that doesn't have a clue about that case.

Can't argue with that. It was a shitty move. Those two guys hated one another more than anything during that time.

And yet, the undisputed GOAT and probably most beloved player of all time was the biggest ballhog of them all. Didn't he punch Steve Kerr in practice once for not passing him the ball during a Bulls scrimmage?

I mean, a lot of people don't like Kobe which is fine. He's one of the most polarizing athletes of our time but the some reasons that people come up with to hate him is just ludicrous.

See that? That quote you made there? This is a damning opinion. You say none of the stuff you listed on why people hate Kobe matters personally to you.. the quote above completely invalidates that. You are a Kobe hater. You are letting your hate cloud your judgement of how great of a basketball player he is/was. It's what the haters do.

Yes I know what consensus means. I didn't say unanimous. I said consensus. MOST people who know anything about basketball, being objective, would be in agreement about Kobe being a top 10 all time player.

What he has accomplished on the basketball court in his career speaks for itself. You can't argue with facts.

Are you disputing that the American public admires team players and doesn't like selfish players? Is it really ridiculous to make that statement?
