Hayden Fry was one of the greatest college coaches ever.
Before Fry, in the 60's and 70's, Iowa was basically what Kansas is today.
Iowas big/ old money boosters remember that. They know how good Fry was. They see Nebraska and know how far one bad hire can set them back. So they're willing to take a couple bad seasons, and mostly average seasons to keep the occasional conference contenders.

Kirk is really rewarding Iowa for that extension w/the dominating performance against mighty North Dakota State today.
