he's basically in their pantheon of coaches historically

he has some bad seasons but he has some elite ones, too. can't ask for more at Iowa

Even still, he'll be 71 in 2026. That's absurd

^^^This. It is frigging Iowa. Not exactly a football factory but they are exceeding expectations.

Unlike Fisher, he's actually achieved quite a bit with that program.

His teams are never flashy, but they play tough-nosed football and win with class. Considering the competition in that league, it's a miracle that he has achieved so much despite never relying on gimmicks and flash-in-the-pan offenses.

You know what that gets you in Iowa? That's OT Baller status.

The analogy doesn't completely work since he is 40 games over .500 at Iowa and has 5 seasons of at least 10 wins.

It is surprising though that in this era of college football that a 61 year old coach gets another 6 years added to his contract which already ran through 2020 and has a record of 38-27 over the past 5 years. He is the 14th highest paid coach in the country.

He's an 8-5 coach and to me 8-5 in college is about as mediocre as 8-8 is in the pros (for P5 conferences)

And he's only gotten to 8-5 or better in 8 of his 17 seasons thus far.

I think it is time we bump Iowa to a top 10 job in college football. Who needs facilities, weather, recruits or an easy path to the playoffs when .595 sets you for life.
