The outspoken television broadcaster will be leaving the sports network when his contract runs out at the end of July, a person with direct knowledge of the matter confirmed to CNNMoney Wednesday.

ESPN is likely to announce Olbermann's departure later on Wednesday.

When they moved his show to daytime, it was only a matter of time.

This has been out for days. Speculation in some of the other articles I read over the weekend (I believe one came from the Hollywood Reporter) was that ESPN wanted him to stop being mean to Roger Goodell and he refused.

Oh look, Olbermann found himself in another situation where he was surrounded by assholes. Guy just has endless bad luck.

Nah this one isn't actually on him. Roger cries when anyone is mean to him and ESPN licks his boots to soothe him.
Also they're probably paying Olbermann way more than what they have him doing is worth.

The guy's ego is too big to fit in anywhere.

It's probably part that. Awful Announcing also had a good article saying that his and BS's being let go were also big parts of major cutbacks by ESPN. FS1 is also making cutbacks. The rising costs for rights to broadcast live sports is really affecting networks.

I can see TBS hiring him to be the studio host for their baseball coverage. Olbermann would actually be a welcome addition because the baseball coverage for TBS is horrific. It would give them a major credibility boost if they hire him.

Yeah I doubt his show does much better ratings than a replay of a half hour of First Take would. They basically wasted him and it would've been even more of a waste if he couldn't do the commentary at the beginning of the show.

I dont think it really has as much to do with KO as it does with ESPN drastically reducing what they pay on air talent. They've even started airing games where the announcers stay in Bristol and call it off a TV vs flying them out to be on site.

*edit* what thrillho said

they did it with several college basketball games last year.

if you've watched a game on ESPN where you can't hardly here the players or crowd its probably b/c they dont actually have announcers on site.

Yeah. This is nothing more than ESPN slashing costs of their high-priced talent. KO's departure has been speculated for a while and it really doesn't seem like it's because of personal conflict: LINK

I for one am pretty disappointed. I thought his ESPN show was really good and he's still one of the best baseball guys in the biz. I find him insufferable when he's doing cable news though.
