Admittedly I'm not a big Rick Pitino fan. Great coach, but comes across like a self-absorbed jerk.

With that said I've been trying to wrap my head around this stripper story from October. Its hard to believe. But its also hard for me to believe Pitino had zero knowledge of the events. Now maybe he didn't know the strippers were coming to the dorm .But I have a hard time believing he didn't know this "assistant coach" or whatever his title was, was bringing in particular recruits.Something just isn't right.

I don't understand who thought it was a good idea to bring in gross strippers and underage girls when there are gorgeous women all over UL.

Most high profile coaches are. If he is saying he doesn't admin knowledge, then he's lying. And he's been caught lying on many occasions. Not a surprise.

And yes, most coaches do the same thing. I feel badly for UL players who are being cheated out of a post season berth because of the idiots that run that institution.

Given Pitino' personal history, I put nothing past him. He is as sleazy as they come. That said, I'm sure he knew just enough to maintain plausible deniability.

But come on. A person who did the things he did in his most intimate of personal relationships, would not think twice about giving the green light about this sort of thing in the recruiting world.

I believe him when he says he did not know what was going on, because coaches do not want to know whats going on during the visit, other when with them. All schools have the certain girls they know to use. It was get them drunk, get them laid, get them signed for every sports recruits.

it just doesn't make sense to me why Pitino or the coaching staff thought strippers and underage prostitutes were necessary? you're in all likelihood a top 10 college bball program and have been for 10+ years. Is that, a degree from a highly recognized university, the coaching talent, annual chance at postseason play, the facilities, and the pipeline to the NBA not enough to land top talent?

You seem to be under the false impression that most big-time college basketball recruits actually give a shite about any of that. For the best of the best, which is what Louisville recruits, college is NOTHING more than an inconvenient, mandatory stop on the way to what they are really after, NBA riches. Like it or not, the vast majority of these kids and their families simply just have their hand out to the universities/coaches to see "what can you do for me?" They aren't "fans" of Louisville, UK, LSU, etc. It's only about who will give me the most to be here.

The kids Louisville generally recruits would would be NBA prospects regardless of whether they played at Louisville, Kentucky, Michigan, or even Weber St.! The coaches know that, so they do whatever they have to do to get them to come to their school as opposed to another school. I doubt Pitino knew the asst. was using professional prostitutes as opposed to the average female student "booster" who is happy to be a cleat-chaser, but I'm sure the general mandate to all of his recruiters was a vague "show them a good time." The means of how to do so were probably not discussed.

Fans like to sit on their high horse and claim they want their school/coach to have "morals". The reality is they really don't give a shite about any of that as long as their team is winning. If Pitino, Calipari, Williams, Brown or hell, go back to Eddie Sutton, were "choir boys" in their recruiting methods but losing coaches, all the "moral" fans would want them fired ASAP.

Fans are hypocrites. I respect Louisville's AD for at least understanding that and doing whatever it takes to win. Even if that means having two HCs with lengthy histories of umm....immoral behavior. Pitino and Petrino being sleazebags but winners keeps the donors/fans happy and keeps Jurich as the AD. Pitino/Petrino being "good" guys but losers makes the donors/fans angry and gets all three guys fired.

I don't think Pitino had any knowledge of it, simply because if he did I honestly believe he would have hired a higher class of hookers.

I'm still trying to find the problem with strippers for college age young men. The basketball players are not coming to campus for a four year degree anymore.

Agreed. It must be tough to compete with your in state rival, where each recruit receives a complimentary handjob from Ashley Judd.

Isn't that kind of the case any time a school has NCAA punishment levied on them? Of course, in this case, the school did it to themselves to try and minimize future punishment.

But that being said, I'd be willing to listen to someone make the case that if a school is found guilty of massive violations the current players should be able to transfer without having to sit out a year. Of course, in this case, some of the kids that were partaking may be on the team, so the punishment is appropriate. That may actually prevent teams from cheating as much as they do. Same goes for when a coach jumps ship before his contract is up.

Also, Pitino is trying the plausible deniability defense. it's bullshite. If you're the captain of the ship, you should know how things are running and who is doing what.
