When you give up that many draft picks

The Saints lost two 2nd round picks because of bountygate, and gave up a second round pick for mark Ingram (also trades 1st)

Falcons gave up a 1st, 2nd, and two 4th round picks (also traded 1st)

So you are saying the Falcons have the worst depth in the league because of all the lost draft picks, yet the Saints lost three 2nd round picks. Yes, the Falcons gave up 1 more draft pick, but two of them were 4th round picks.

who's denying the saints don't have depth issues?

dumpsterfire last year at CB and safety after everyone not named Lewis went down or sucked arse like Corey White.

guard/center was a fricking nutcase. backup tackle (harris) couldn't block a toddler.

No one is, but people point at the Julio Jones trade as being the main reason why the Falcons have the worst depth in the league, when the Saints probably lost more value yet have better depth than the Falcons.

* 4th rder to move up 1 slot to draft T-Rich

No you're right, trading away multiple young potential great cost controlled talents for one elite WR makes sense. It's not like the Pats, Packers, Ravens, and many other successful franchises have been emphasizing just how valuable great not elite cost controlled players are.

It's not like Wilkerson, Houston, Randall Cobb, Barksdale, Hightower, Decastro, or various other players would have been available.

Yeah, because the tradeoff for gambling on (an exceptional) skill position player was that you lost the opportunity to pick up solid depth in a variety of other positions on the field.

I'm not going to argue either way on their relative depth, but this seems like a giant distraction argument. If you can offset some of the depth challenges of losing draft picks with free agents or later round draft picks then you've bucked the odds and did better than you should on average. Whether or not you were successful in offsetting the challenge you lost the opportunity to pick up depth in a more traditional salary controlled manner.

Considering the combined shite pile Julio would've had throwing to him as a Brown everybody might think he sucks right now

as talented as Julio Jones is, its so weird he's only led the team in receptions in just 1 out of 4 seasons as a pro.

this year coming up could be his best ever.

four years in he's averaging over 12 games and 1,000 yards a season.

pretty damn good. it will be interesting if he builds on last season or if some of that was motivated by a contract season

its not "The Browns". Its people in the organization. people make those decisions. I have no idea who they are. They should be out of football though and they aren't. "They are good people". Blah blah. Sell insurance.

If you gave Bellichek those same draft picks, half of them would be featured players in the next Super Bowl.

Can you imagine some of the lineman available with those picks?

Yeah, they paid for it the past two years no doubt; Ryan has been mauled.

But, The idea behind the Julio trade at the time seemed to be "let's win now", and its hard to argue their intent when they were thisss close to a Super Bowl. 2012 was definitely their year. It was almost as if Goodell called Atlanta and said, "art, I did you the biggest solid with your schedule and making sure your nemesis can't coach this year". If I were an Atlanta fan I'd still be sick to my stomach about 2012.

As a Browns fan, I hate being reminded of this. Julio could have changed the entire complexion of the offense.

Not sure what the saints had to do with this, but I don't think anyone would defend our drafting recently. The lack of picks combined with some poor ones put us in a really bad spot last year. It also led to revamping the entire scouting dept and the saints trading guys away to stock up on picks and address multiple needs. If there's one thing that has covered for the lack of picks/busts it's been our ability to hit on some late round and undrafted guys.

The SECCG and NFCCG that year were the ultimate double whammy. Falcons had zero business blowing a 17-0 lead that day.....

Let's take a moment to think about Julio Jones and Josh Gordon lining up in the same receiving corps
