If 49ers coach Chip Kelly wants quarterback Johnny Manziel, Kelly apparently won’t have to trade for him.

Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com reports that the Browns are expected to cut Manziel by the close of business on Friday.

The Browns had created the impression that they would have cut Manziel in late January after his latest brush with the law, if they had the cap space to do it. But they didn’t cut him when the new league year began, which created the impression that they were hoping to trade him or waiting for an opportunity to void his remaining $2.1 million in guaranteed money.

I find it weird that they didn't cut him yesterday but then again this is the worst NFL franchise in history so it's not that surprising

I can't believe that he may get another shot in San Francisco. What a life to be a professional athlete.

He's guaranteed 2.1 million against the cap. They were hoping he'd be charged with domestic violence so they could cut him and save that cap space.

They are also trying to trade him but that's been a failure as well.

They're buying every day they can thinking he could do something stupid that would result in them not having any dead money from his release.

Surprised they haven't charged him or no-billed him yet.

Second only to that of an NFL or college football coach. You get one gig and it's like no matter how awful you are you're gonna always find a job somewhere.

If Chip Kelly actually wants Manziel then anyone who thinks he's a good coach is wrong

I legit just assumed he'd already been cut. How in the hell is he still on an NFL roster?

what are the chances that he was at the strip club, and saw it on Twitter? (he obviously knew a long time back he was gone)

Congrats to Johnny FB.

Whenever you get out of Cleveland, it's a win.

I think Jerry is scummy enough to relate to Johnny and would be able to steer him in the "rewarding" direction by appealing to their similar demons

If Manziel was already getting into trouble in Cleveland, imagine how much of a train wreck he'd be in the San Francisco Bay Area.
