“I think first of all the thing that you can say about Robert Griffin is that he won the division his very first year, as a rookie,” Gibbs told the Junkies on 106.7 The Fan Tuesday morning. “We all saw him. He made great plays. You can’t go in that division and win the division unless you’ve got a quarterback that’s really operating. I think he’s proven to people he can do that, and so I think it’s a matter of health, the health issues, making sure that he’s totally healthy.

“And I think you’ve got somebody there that’s got great talent,” Gibbs went on. “Things haven’t gone his way. He’s been hurt. But I think you’ve got somebody there that is a real talent, and has proven that he can do it. It’s not like we’re guessing. This guy’s won the NFC East, and I know how hard that is to do. So I think we’ve got a great talent there. We’re going to start Kirk [Cousins] this week, [and] I think there’s probably still some questions there about Robert, making sure he’s totally healthy.”

Someone break it down for me. I don't follow the NFL much. What's the jen on this guy? Can he just not play QB or is he lazy as hell? What's the deal?

The coaches and management have. That's all that matters.

I think it due to the fact that the coach doesn't like him and some of the players don't like him. Add to the fact that he never completely healed he just keeps digging deeper into the hole.

Extremely talented, smart guy.

NOT a leader.

Always injured, or easily injured.

Has not learned how to read defensive schemes accurately, despite his intelligence. Might have comprehension issues.

His OC hates him and is putting him in a scheme he's totally uncomfortable running. And it's probably past time to start questioning that organization for the way his health situation has been handled.

RGIII is all about himself. He's a weird dude...but intelligent...aloof...blames other players and coaches. Not mentally or physically tough enough...front runner

Agree with this.

Smart, talented guy, but teammates don't like him and he doesn't seem to be the leader a QB needs to be.

Also injures crazy easily.

Had a good rookie year but got hurt in the playoff game. I've heard more than a few talking heads say that basically he went to Snyder (owner) and said he didn't want to play that style anymore and wanted to be a pocket passer like Manning/Rodgers/Luck. But he simply doesn't have that skill set.

Also he has a bad attitude, that seems to be obvious to me.

Defenses scheme for the read option and take that away, and he can't play from under center.

This is a major issue that week plague many talented college QBs that can't adapt from the read to pro style.

Jay Gruden has done RG3 no favors. He's an absolute clown.

Won the division his rookie year and played well by running a simplified offense similar to what he ran at Baylor that required him to run a lot and use his speed. While successful that year, it proved he couldn't physically hold up over time playing that way and exposing himself. Despite the fact that he's really fast, he isn't elusive at all and takes some brutal hits. Not a sturdy enough guy like Cam Newton to absorb that punishment.

Since that year they've tried to operate him as a real NFL qb which he's proven pretty overwhelmingly that he can't handle. He appears to lack instincts to play within the pocket. Indecisive and holds on to the ball forever, takes a ton of sacks despite having great mobility. Basically he's hopeless going forward, you can either run a college style offense that he can handle that will get him killed (even though he's not as fast post injury), or you can continue developing him as an NFL passer even though he's shown almost zero progression over 2 seasons and appears to just lack that ability.

I give him an ounce of credit for figuring out what some don't figure out until much later; playing from the pocket is how you last in the NFL.

Maybe he shouldn't have gone to Baylor. He'd been better off at a smaller FBS school playing in a pro style. By the time you get to the NFL it's far too late to change styles. There's simply not enough time to get the reps in needed to change habits.

Someone on a podcast mentioned Seattle as a place to sit and learn and get some confidence back.

I would say philly but i doubt the redskins would allow that to happen.

Mike shannahan said it was Snyder and griffin who decided the scheme. Griffin didn't want to be a running/option passer, he wanted to be a pure dropback

So it doesn't sound like the OC is sabotaging him, sounds like he's doing it to himself

I said it before and i'll say it again, Philly would be perfect him.

Chip Kelly's system is tailored made for Griffin. If I was Kelly, I would try to get him and give a year to recuperate mentally and physically while learning the system.

It isn't just the system. Chip is a QB whisperer.
