quote:

As Harbaugh tells SI : "The incompetence of the NCAA has reared its ugly head yet again."

quote:

Harbaugh says the ruling was "knee-jerk ... like somebody was shaving in the morning, cut themselves when they were shaving and said, 'Let's just ban satellite camps.'

quote:

"I mean, what's it based on? A survey? There wasn't a lot of discussion or study. What are the facts? What are the perils and merits of making that decision? It just seemed lacking in that regard."

quote:

Harbaugh says, "This is going to affect thousands and thousands of people." That is no exaggeration. It will affect thousands and thousands of people. To understand why, let's look at what the NCAA really did.

quote:

Harbaugh points out the hypocrisy: "During the NCAA basketball tournament we discuss the term 'student-athlete' ad nauseam in promoting our governing institution and our member institutions. Then, when we have an opportunity to truly promote the 'student-athlete' with a concept shared by educators and football men from all backgrounds, our leadership goes into hiding. "I suggest we drop the term 'student-athlete' for consistency."

quote:

"It seems to be outrage by the SEC and ACC," Harbaugh says. "They power-brokered that out ... the image that comes to my mind is guys in a back room smoking cigars, doing what they perceive is best for them. It certainly isn't the best thing for the youngsters. It's not the best thing for the student-athletes." Harbaugh saw Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze say, "I'm away from my family enough, and I just did not want to go," and it did not sit well with him. Says Harbaugh: "You've got a guy sitting in a big house, making $5 million a year, saying he does not want to sacrifice his time. That is not a kindred spirit to me. What most of these coaches are saying is they don't want to work harder."

Solid melt.

I actually agree with Harbaugh on this but I was so looking forward to his comments.

You do realize the acc was also against them.

It seems knee-jerk.

He was focused, a lot of attention was paid.

The SEC complained.

It went to the NCAA...boom, what usually takes years...happened immediately...

Banned.

I think Jim is highlighting the politics of the sport and which areas of the sport control it for their own benefit.

I mean this wasn't a collective bipartisan round-table, this was just...you done. Sort of scary how we are still declaring our champions when you see such a gag-order and shut-down.

Not a full conference wide collective agreement.

From what I hear the Pac and Big10 were for it...the SEC and the ACC pushed against it.

Knowing who won out so easily without discussion, tells you everything about how they elect playoff participants.

No, it's what you did you idiot. Is he like the Fonz and can't admit that he's wrong? YOU affected thousands and thousands of people because you had to take advantage of something that had been going on smoothly for years because you wanted to host yours at the best high schools in the country to give yourself an advantage.

He can piss and moan all he wants, but this rule comes back to him and him only

Meh just because your conference has once stance doesn't mean you have to agree with it. I love Auburn but agree with Harbaugh that this affects a ton of prospective athletes

College football, like all sports, is about money and winning. The SEC is protecting its turf. Are you saying the SEC shouldn't do all it can to maintain its edge in having control of recruiting in its region?

They still had an advantage on the recruiting trail in the South. There has even been a growing number of players in different parts of the country coming to the SEC. Stop defending this baby back bullshite.

Agree. College football has become commercialized. If the NCAA is going to allow hundred million dollar TV contracts, then they should let teams do as needed to be competitive. This smells bad.

No they're being babies. What would've prevented Bama Florida etc going into OH PA to hold camps?

The ignorance of some people is astounding. The "northern" schools weren't going to steal anything they just wanted camps just like the SEC ACC could have had.

This entire thing has been ridiculous. The amount of air time on both sides has been astounding.

Effective immediately, college coaches cannot work any camp that is not on their own campus.

Bottom line it seems obvious that the SEC and ACC wanted the rule because they are closer to more of the highly ranked recruits. I'm not sure what's really better for the recruits on the balance though. I'm sure there will be people claiming that they would have benefited by getting more exposure - helping them with power five and midmajor conference teams.
