It really is fun to watch this gif over and over.. Especially just focusing on everyone else aside from Clowney.

I love hyperbole, don't you?

What's ironic is your efforts to be the contrarian have caused you to be the most hyperbolic person in this thread.

'There is nothing fundamentally different in football today because you still have to block and tackle' is by far the most ridiculous statement posted here

How so?

How is the game fundamentally different from what it was in 1993?

Its like saying basketball is the same game because you still have to dribble and shoot, when the goal is lowered to 5 feet and traveling is now 5 steps. That's just not intellectually honest.

Basketball is a good comparison because there has been no sport more willing to monkey with the rulebook than basketball. Dribbling, the shot clock, the 3 second violation, the 3-point line, etc. But even without changing the rulebook, they have changed how they call travelling and charging. But the sport is still basketball (and I actually think they should enlarge the court).

But has the NFL made the equivalent change of lowering the rims by a foot? Not really. Maybe they've loosened the rules on travelling to increase scoring, but it's still the same game.

Actually, what has changed the game the most in the past 20 years isn't the rules on head hunting but massive substitutions and personnel packages. If you watch the 90s Cowboys teams, they only had about two different personnel packages and rarely made situational subs. That's like the Dark Ages on player usage.

I'm not against limiting headshots, but also the violence s part of the appeal of the sport. Can't someone like both the finesse of a great receiver and the violence of Clowney's hit? Why is it either or?

However, this is causing the game to look nothing like it did 10-20 years ago

well.... football 20 years ago looked nothing like football 50 years ago.... and football today like wont look just like 20 years from now. its an evolving game.
