It wasn't a sports game, it was a war crime, 222-0

Fascinating Video about the wild west of college football in the early 20th century, and how Georgia Tech unleashed on Cumberland College, the most lopsided result in college football history....

...in football history.... in sports history.... in the history of grown men in any competition ever.

-Tech never bothered to throw the ball, despite their HC having invented the forward pass.

-Coach Heisman made his players play a 30 minute scrimmage after the 222-0 game

-Cumberland football was immediately totally dissolved

I still say it is impossible and they didn't really score 222 points. Hell, I don't think they scored over 175.

That's a score every 27 seconds on average. Unreal

Very true, video goes over the entire game as given by accounts. Cumberland had to be that completely inept to allow this to happen.

Apparently.

A. John Heisman was an angry man out for revenge
B. Cumberland didn't have a football team anymore
C. The team of random students had a student age coach.... who didn't know the rules of football.
D. Their quarterback was knocked out of the game... on the opening kickoff.

I don't believe this game either. I have a hard time believing if GT was scoring every play, Cumberland players wouldn't just dip out on the game.

According to the video 4 Cumberland players ran away during the game.

They probably used deflated footballs, tbh.

I've always heard Heisman fixed the game anyway for them to score 222. Pretty sure deadspin wrote about it six or seven years ago

False.

He knew GT would win. He had Cumberland +217. Any more points than that was a fool's bet. That last garbage TD sunk him.

The reason that the score ended up 222-0, is Cumberland beat GA Tech that spring 22-0 in baseball.

The Georgia Tech kicker caught his own kick in the end zone for a touchdown. That's unreal.

To be far, it was kind of like 11 of us playing Alabama.

Cumberland wanted out of it but Heisman wouldn't let them because of the baseball game so they just found some guys.

You had schools playing that didn't even know how to play...let alone half the rules were different among areas of the country and "associations" before conferences.

Not really. The vast majority of GT's drives actually started inside Cumberland territory. They also had multiple defensive TDs and ST TDs.
There were a few plays where Cumberland players actually all laid down on the ground and let GT score TDs. There were also several plays in which Cumberland players didn't even attempt to tackle the GT players.
Every single one of GT's drives lasted no more than a few plays including many that were one play.

I mean...if Notre Dame did something...then now its suddenly legal.

Notre Dame is going to throw the ball - ok...I guess that's legal because they're Notre Dame. The end.
